But two “natural” deaths rouse Jasper’s suspicion, drawing him into an obsession that threatens their fragile bond. Meanwhile, Dan is pulled toward enigmatic Leonie, sensing a spark that might finally break the grip of his past.

A new Pioneer PBS documentary revisits Minnesota's journey toward mental health reform. For generations thousands of Minnesota families carried stories they rarely shared. Stories of friends and family who quietly disappeared behind the walls of state hospitals. Others belonged to the nurses, attendants, reporters, clergy and everyday citizens who witnessed conditions they believed no human being should endure and chose to speak up.

Those intertwined stories are at the heart of Lost Souls: Reforming Minnesota’s Mental Health Institutions, a new historical documentary premiering on Pioneer PBS that explores one of the least discussed chapters in Minnesota history, while honoring the people whose courage helped change it.
