Filling Bellies — One Meal, One Puppy, One Kind Conversation at a Time

Today’s outreach felt simple in the best possible way.

Hot bowls of spicy Mexican rice, corn, and vegan beef filled hungry stomachs while conversations unfolded in parking lots, motel walkways, and beside wagging tails.

One tiny seven-week-old puppy especially stayed on my heart today. So many puppies in the area have recently died from parvo, and the owner was already on his way to begin the vaccination series for his little pup. I gave him ARC’s number in case he needs support with future vaccinations, supplies, or puppy care along the way.

Another big beautiful dog simply needed food until payday arrives on Wednesday. The owner was deeply grateful for the bag of dog food and relieved to know her two companions would be fed.

But when we meet people out on the street and serve from our van, it is never just about handing out food.

It is about connection.
Building trust.
Learning people’s names.
Finding out what else someone might need besides a meal.
Giving people time to feel safe enough to talk.
Showing up consistently enough that trust slowly grows over time.

Sometimes people need food.
Sometimes they need dog food.
Sometimes they need help with a puppy.
Sometimes they simply need someone to treat them with dignity for a few moments during a hard season of life.

That’s what today felt like.

Not fixing entire lives.
Not solving everything.

Just meeting people exactly where they were.
Helping fill the bellies of people and their animals.
Offering kindness, conversation, practical support, and human connection.

These ordinary moments matter more than people realize.

Today’s outreach happened under warm sunshine and blue skies, but people were still asking for coats, socks, gloves, and warm clothing.

When you live outside, the weather is never simple. A warm afternoon can quickly become a cold night.

We served hot curry rice today, and people kept telling us how much they loved it. Watching someone immediately begin eating while standing in a parking lot is a reminder that a hot meal is never “just food.” Sometimes it is comfort. Sometimes it is relief.

Every person out here has a different story.

Some once had stable jobs and homes before an injury or hardship changed everything.
Some are young couples trying to survive together.
Some carry everything they own on a bicycle or in a backpack.

And still, through all of it, there were smiles, conversations, gratitude, and kindness.

That is what stays with me most after outreach days like this.

The humanity.

Blue Skies, Hard Days

Serving today, right where people are living—out in the margins.

Burritos in hand.
Hygiene bags offered.
Sleeping bags for those who needed warmth tonight.

One man walked away with a pair of jeans—something so simple, but not easy to come by out here. He held them like they mattered.

Because they do.

No big production.
Just showing up.
Listening.
Hand to hand.

This is the work. Donations make this possible. www.angelresourceconnection.org/donations.

Cold and rainy today.
We made about 40 pounds of deep dish chili and served a lot of new faces.

Grateful we could also offer socks, warm clothing, and coats—things that can mean just as much as a hot meal on a day like this.

And Bobby was there again.
A little dog we had helped before, back out in the cold beside his person.
Shivering. Waiting.
This time, there was a coat for him too.

The world needs love and kindness right now.
So we serve where the need is greatest. Your donations help. www.angelresourceconnection.org/donations.

We arrive, and it’s quiet.
No line.
No crowd.
Just stillness.

And we wait.
Because we know.

This is how it always begins.
One person comes.
Then another.
Then a few more.
And suddenly, there’s a group.

Conversations.
Smiles.
Hungry hands holding warm plates.

That tray we carried in—
the one that could feed 50 people is gone before we leave.

Every time!

And every time, we hear the same thing:

“Thank you.”
“I wouldn’t have had a hot meal today.”
“We appreciate you showing up.”

But what stays with me most isn’t just the words.

It’s the feeling that someone remembered them.

That someone came back.

That someone cared enough to keep showing up.
Thanks for helping. www.angelresourceconnection.org/donations.

Today we served hot Beyond Burger mac & cheese. We handed out Bombas socks, backpacks with hygiene supplies, and sleeping bags.

Some faces I knew.
Some asked, “Do you remember me?”

One woman said I once gave her a phone
and I remembered exactly when that happened.

She told me it helped her more than she could explain.

In Granite Falls, a few people told me they’re on their way into housing.
They thanked me for the food.

I always hand out my card.
And I always tell the women
I’m here every Monday at the same time.

If you ever need help, come find me.

No questions asked.
No judgment.
Just help.
Your donations help too!

We showed up.

Hot food.
Warm coats.
Sleeping bags.
Backpacks.

No line. No system.
Just people… and a place to meet them.

So we go to them.

We’ll keep showing up.

Today we met a woman living in a van with two young dogs.

They’re just over a year old, curious, sweet, and completely dependent on her.

We gave her a hot meal, food for her dogs, and spent a little time talking. Not rushing. Not just handing things over and moving on.

She shared that the person’s van is a recent acquaintance, and we talked about safety and other shelter options she could try.

We also gave her information for the Carnegie resource center that provides phones on Tuesdays (10–2, but you have to get there early asthe line fills fast). Having a phone can change everything, access to help, appointments, connection.

Sometimes it’s not just about the meal.

It’s about slowing down long enough to see someone’s situation and offer something that might help them take the next step.

And of course, we made sure her dogs were taken care of too with two bags of dog food.

Today’s outreach in the rain.

Rainy parking lots. Pulling over on the side of the road to ask someone if they’re hungry. Stopping when you see someone standing in the rain with their dog and you know they have nowhere to go, asking if the dog needs food too.

Hot bowls of stew and warm bread were shared with people doing their best to get through another cold, wet day, more people than anyone wishes to see standing out in the rain.

One man received two hot meals and a sleeping bag. He immediately turned and handed the second meal to a friend who also needed food.

Another young woman was grateful not only for a hot meal, but also for food for her dog.

Even in the hardest circumstances, kindness still shows up. People who have very little still look out for each other.

This is the heart of Angel Resource Connection, people helping people. A warm meal. A sleeping bag. Food for a beloved pet. Small acts of care that ripple outward.

Thank you to everyone who supports this work. Because of you, we are able to keep showing up.
