“One time I was visiting with my relatives the clouds,
the mountains,
the sky,
the trees
My relatives touched my spirit nudged it
lovingly
Listen to us impatient one
We are forever
You must remember the gentleness of time
You are struggling to be who you are
You say you want to learn the old ways
Struggling to learn when all you must do is remember
Remember the people
Remember sky and Earth
Remember the people have always struggled to live in harmony in peace
Struggle against selfishness and weakness so the people may live as nations
The old ways are hard
The people have always had to work together
Remember impatient one
Remember and live
Do not be afraid of truth
respect
discipline
Share your life so the people may live
Honor sky and Earth
Honor yourself
Honor your relations
Remember impatient one
the gentleness of time so the people may live”

Spring has been going strong at Hoȟwóžu Otȟúŋwe! We have planted thousands of precious seeds and we’ve already been harvesting bushels of radishes, lettuce, arugula, and spinach. Our amazing four-season greenhouse means that we can grow healthy fruits and vegetables year round!

Do you see those microgreen trays? That’s one of Farm Director Luke’s fun experiments … he went all over Minnesota collecting wild mustard seeds of all kinds, and now he’s growing them out as microgreens! Wild mustard microgreens! I can’t wait to try them on a bison bratwurst!

This year, we’ll be planting acres of Dakota purple maize, yellow crookneck squash, Wawikiya’s Beans (from our dear friend Frank Kutka), snap peas, snow peas, kale, tomatoes from sweet to acidic, chilies that go from mild to melt your face off, and herbs from basil to beebalm. And so much more!

We will keep you posted!

Hamdan Ballal, Oscar-winning director of No Other Land, has been freed. He was attacked by Israeli settlers and also the military who then arrested him from the ambulance he was in. He was left "blindfolded and handcuffed” throughout the night at the military base. Public pressure no doubt helped to secure his release, there are thousands of Palestinians incarcerated by apartheid Israel who don't have his reach. They must be freed too.
