Serving the unhoused goes far beyond simply giving a sandwich and a fresh pair of clothing. At Jesus Saves, one of the main ways we minister to people is by teaching accountability, productivity and leading people to be more accustomed to walking in the light as opposed to falling into darkness.
From 9am-3pm M-F, the unhoused we serve are continuously being discipled, poured into, and taught how to give back what they have learned to those around them. Case in point. Today was parking lot clean up. Our friends went around the entire parking lot with trash bags and brooms in hand.
No one made them go. They go because they want to, and what we are seeing is the way in which they see themselves is changing. They start seeing who they could be instead of who they’ve been told they will never be. Day by day, week by week, we see the grips of depression, disparity and addiction slowly losing their grip. Hopelessness turns into hope, and lives are being restored. The goal is not just to find them a place to stay. The goal is to lead them to freedom and to give them the tools and support to sustain it so when they do get clean and get off the streets, they can live in true freedom.
