Lessssgoooo to Valllleeejjoooo. 🫶🏽 TWO BRIDGES.
42miles, 1.8k ft of climbing. Meet at 9:30am, Rollout at 10am
Route Description: Concord BART (yellow line). We’ll take protected bike lanes on shared roads to Martinez. From there we’ll make our way to Carquinez Scenic Route, a car-free 5-mile stretch which includes gentle climbs (averaging 3-4%) and rolling descents. We’ll reach Crockett, where we’ll take a short climb to our first bridge ~ Carquinez Bridge. We’ll cross the Carquinez Bridge into Cal Maritime Academy, then shortly through a Vallejo neighborhood to enter a gravel section at Glen Cove Waterfront Park. From there, we’ll take the trail to Benicia State Park and mosey our way through Downtown Benicia’s 1st Street, with food stops at One House Bakery (for sandwiches, pastries, pie) & Double Rainbow Cafe (ICE CREAM!). We’ll continue on Military East street to our second bridge, Benicia Bridge and cross to Martinez. From Martinez, we’ll take city roads and bike trails back to Concord BART station.
Conditions: 97% paved/road, 3% hard packed dirt/gravel. Protected bike lanes, painted bike lanes, rural roads, car-free pedestrian.
Recommended: bicycle with working gears; tires at 30mm+ would be helpful for unmaintained paved roads; 25-28mm CX/gravel tires will be fine on small gravel section through Benicia SP
Pace: 9-11mph on flats, 3-5mph on climbs. No drop, party pace
