We lost a great man with the passing of Coach Lee Evans. Coach Evans, his wife Bonnie and son Jeff have been part of the Grizzly Football Family for over 20 years.
Lee Evans was a giant of a man in so many ways and to so many people; he was a mentor to so many students, players and coaches, including me. When Coach Evans retired from teaching, he moved to this area and immediately started coaching with us at Granite Bay High - his impact was immediate. Coach was always focused on the Grizzlies playing the right way: playing hard with physical toughness and playing as a unit; he was constantly coaching attention to details and he reminded his players, and me, daily to “get a little better each day.” Playing with toughness, playing together, focusing on details and striving to improve on a daily basis became the hallmarks of the Granite Bay High School Football Program.
When I think of Coach I think of Toughness, Strength of Character and good, old-fashioned hard work! Some days I would just stop and watch him interact with his players on the OLine - the “Quickside” guys; he worked their tails off but they had so much fun doing it. He had little catch phrases for each kind of block, phrases that helped his players remember their assignments; his players benefited daily not only from his 40+ years of coaching but from his beautiful spirit and positive outlook on life. Coach Lee Evans coached you up and loved you up whether you were a starter or the last guy in the game; he was the same way with our football staff - we all learned so much from this outstanding teacher, coach and man.
We were so blessed to have Lee Evans come into our lives.
My wife Carol and I send our condolences to Bonnie, Jeff and the entire Evans Family. Coach Cooper
