The Grangeville Community Foundation awarded the City of Grangeville a grant from the Kevin Zumwalt Fund to support the installation of a brand new playground structure at Lions Park. With these funds, the City was able to remove outdated, unsafe, and out-of-compliance equipment and replace it with beautiful new playground equipment that is safe and welcoming for children of all ages.
The project also included new wood fiber safety surfacing and the addition of a bench recognizing the generous donation made in memory of Kevin Zumwalt by the Kevin Zumwalt Fund and the Grangeville Community Foundation. This improvement ensures Lions Park remains a safe, accessible, and enjoyable space for families in our community.

Grangeville Elementary Middle School Music, led by Ms. Carla, received a grant from the Grangeville Community Foundation to purchase new Contra Bass Bars for the classroom. These instruments have added depth and rich, beautiful bass tones to the music students create while playing ORFF instruments.
Students love playing the Contra Bass Bars. They are simple, accessible instruments that students of all ages and abilities can play successfully. Students benefit by learning to keep a steady beat while accompanying songs they sing or play on other instruments.
It is especially wonderful that students of all abilities can participate, feel successful, and contribute meaningfully to the music through these Contra Bass Bars.

This year, the Grangeville Community Foundation was pleased to provide a grant to Gem’s 2nd and 3rd grade team, giving students a valuable lifelong lesson about the vast outdoors. Through this project, students learned how to safely and responsibly enjoy our local forests while developing a meaningful connection to the lands around them.

The program emphasized environmental stewardship and personal safety in an innovative, hands-on way that actively engaged students beyond the classroom. In addition, the project helped strengthen the positive relationship between the school and the U.S. Forest Service.

It’s not necessary to be a billionaire to leave a portion of your estate to your community. Of course we all plan for our children to inherit, but would you consider leaving 5% for a lasting legacy to your community?

Grangeville Senior Nutrition was one of 23 grant recipients provided by Grangeville Community Foundation in May of 2025. The program serves seniors and homebound individuals by providing one-third of the recommended daily dietary allowance three times each week. In addition to regular meals, Grangeville Senior Nutrition offers holiday meals and social activities that foster connection and well-being among seniors in our area.

Their welcoming atmosphere gives seniors a place to visit with old friends and meet new ones while enjoying card games, crafts, old-time fiddlers. For homebound participants, meals are delivered three times a week—often providing the only face-to-face interaction they have with others in the community through friendly volunteer delivery drivers.

Grangeville Senior Nutrition also partners with other local organizations to help educate seniors about additional services available within the community. In June of 2025 alone, the program provided 1,821 meals, demonstrating its vital role in supporting the health, nutrition, and social connection of our senior population.

Safe Start: Infant & Child Health & Safety believes that every child deserves to celebrate their first birthday—and many more—free from accidental injury or death. This year, Safe Start hosted two community safety events in April and September. Through these events, the program served more than 150 community members and provided 39 new car seats, 7 new cribs, and 19 sleep sacks. Additionally, 19 unsafe car seats were removed from community circulation.

All of these resources were provided at no cost, made possible through the generous support of the Grangeville Community Foundation. Thank you to Safe Start for your unwavering commitment to the health and safety of our community’s children.

In 2025, thanks in part to GCF, the Animal Rescue Foundation has spayed and neutered more than 170 animals, providing comprehensive care that also includes deworming, core vaccinations, and treatment for eye issues or other medical concerns. In addition, ARF has successfully transferred more than 100 animals for adoption. Thanks to the dedication of the volunteers, who have fostered over 200 animals in our region, ARF has been able to adopt out more than 90 animals locally.

ARF's purpose is to ensure that all animals in our region have safe, healthy, and loving homes. They support both pets and the people who care for them, offering assistance whenever it’s needed. One of their current goals is to build a dedicated animal shelter. Thanks to a generous land donation and progress through the necessary paperwork and permitting, they are closer to making this vision a reality.

The Grangeville Community Foundation is proud to support the Camas Food and Flowers Community Garden through one of our 21 grants awarded to area nonprofit organizations this year.

This project addresses a vital community need by increasing access to fresh, healthy produce—something that can be challenging for many rural residents. The garden promotes improved health and nutrition while creating a welcoming, inclusive space for all community members, including those with diverse mobility needs.

The Camas Food and Flowers team used this grant to build the new Willow Greenhouse. Although progress was briefly delayed when a windstorm toppled the structure, their perseverance paid off. A new greenhouse has since been completed and is now fully operational, supporting their mission to grow food, share knowledge, and strengthen community connections. The garden provides opportunities to learn about planting, harvesting, food preservation, and sustainability, helping neighbors grow together in more ways than one.
