Daniel "Danny" M Brewster Obituary

Daniel Merlin Brewster, 79, of Grangeville, ID, passed away March 11, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lewiston, ID.

Dan was born June 2, 1946 in Klamath Falls, OR to Merlin Frank Brewster and Frances Anna (McGinnis) Brewster. The summer of 1950 the family moved to Grangeville, ID for logging employment.

Dan Attended Sts. Peter & Paul Grade School and graduated from Grangeville High School in 1965. He was a member of the Grangeville Army National Guard from 1964-1966. On February 14,1966 he enlisted in the US Navy and became an E5 Second Class Petty Officer. He served on the Pacific Fleet ships – the USS O’Brien, the USS White Plains and the USS Ramsey. He was on the USS O’Brien when it was hit by enemy fire, and two shipmates were killed and four wounded. Some of the countries he visited while he was on active duty were Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

Dan returned to Grangeville in September of 1977 and re-enlisted in the Grangeville National Guard and was a member until 1990. He worked around the area for the Grangeville Sawmill, the Forest Service, Kelly Sports Lounge and the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation. He was also a member of the Grangeville Elk’s Lodge and was the Exalted Ruler 1990-1991. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and watching his collection of over 300 movies.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Jim Brewster, & his sister Irene Degenstein.

He is survived by his younger brother, Michael (Debbie) Brewster of Grangeville, ID, his Sister in law Barbara Brewster of Lewiston, ID, and many nieces and nephews.

At Dans request, there will be no service. Inurnment will be held at the Grangeville Cemetery next to his parents at a later date. Arrangements have been provided by the DeFord Funeral Home in Grangeville. Send condolences to the family at
