White Eagle Pow Wow

White Eagle Pow Wow Supporting diversity through music, performance, and food at our annual multicultural event. Interested volunteering with us?

Please email [email protected]. Our Goal:

•To continue the dream of Ralph Moisa III.
•To place love at the top of our list.
•To love Mother Earth and care for her.
•To love our fellow beings, the four legged, the winged, the fish, the insects, and plant life. So we may remember our place among them and not above them.
•To use the gifts unique to each of us and to bless the

circle so that we may walk tall before our Creator.
•To honor those who have gone before us and those yet to come. When we as Natives say that the "Sacred Hoop" is broken, it means we have forgotten what is most important including our families, our children, our communities, and our world. If we fail to take our proper place in each of these areas, then the hoop is broken. We live in a new and dangerous world. We must teach our children (7th Generation) to be accepting and tolerant, but also know who they are, and be proud of their heritage and then we can begin to heal. It is our goal to bring families and all races together to bring down the walls of misunderstanding by sharing a little of all heritages through music and dance so we can all understand that we are not that different. We hope that you will be a part of this celebration and that you to will join us in the Mending of the "Sacred Hoop". We are looking for performers and volunteers to help us celebrate our yearly event! Please reach out to us if you would like to join us!

It is a little late in the month, but we would like to share our April volunteer spotlight! This month’s spotlight is on Todd Spratt, our Director & Grounds Coordinator. Keep reading to learn more about Todd and what it is like to be a volunteer with the White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow!

~ How long have you been volunteering with the White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow? And what keeps you coming back? ~

I met Ralph and Carol even before Pow Wow started, back in the nineties. They used to do presentations in the community and that is how I met them. So really, I have been volunteering since the very beginning. I volunteered consistently for about a decade, then stepped away for a while, and rejoined again about 5 years ago.

~ What is your role at the Pow Wow? ~

I was the Grounds Coordinator for the longest time. On top of that, I stepped into the Director role recently. I am working on modernizing Pow Wow, doing things like digitizing our memory tent. Everyone is online nowadays so we need to be as present there as possible.

~ What is your absolute favorite thing about what the Pow Wow does for the community? ~

I love how it brings people together and helps remind them of what is important in life. Pow Wow recreates a feeling of community that we are all sorely missing today where we do not even talk to our neighbors anymore.

~ What would you tell anyone who is thinking about volunteering with us? ~

Come experience us with an open mind. One of our goals is breaking down the barriers and assumptions that we put on others just because they are different from us. It is so important that we get to know who we each are beyond the labels that society places on us. If that resonates with you, please come try us out!

~ What is a fun fact about you? ~

My wife, Robin, and I had a child graduating high school while another child joined kindergarten!

We are getting back to our monthly series where we spotlight our volunteers! March’s spotlight is on Sylvia Brown, our Frybread Maker. Keep reading to learn more about Sylvia and what it is like to be a volunteer with the White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow!

~ How long have you been volunteering with the White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow? And what keeps you coming back? ~
For about 3 or 4 years now! I started out as a vendor selling popcorn. Robin, our Vendor Coordinator, reached out to me and invited me to join the committee. She and Todd (our director) are so kind, they make me feel like I am part of one big family.

~ What is your role at the Pow Wow? ~
I am the Frybread Maker. I love seeing people get happy when they eat my frybread! There are so many tasty ways to prepare it too, many Natives like eating it with their soups. You can also put cinnamon on it and have it as a nice treat! For us Native Americans, we show love by making frybread, it is like our own special love language.

~ What is your absolute favorite thing about what the Pow Wow does for the community? ~
I love that it brings folks together from so many diverse cultures. We get one weekend where we all come together to learn about each other and laugh together. I think this sense of community and learning from each other is very much needed in today’s day and age.

~ What would you tell anyone who is thinking about volunteering with us? ~
It is so much fun! I would say if you are interested at all, just give us a try. It is eye-opening and you can make so many friends. Everyone at Pow Wow respects each other and treats each other very well. When you volunteer with our Pow Wow, it is like you are adopting a family. Most of my family lives in Oklahoma, in the Sac and Fox tribe that I am from. I miss having somebody to call to get together with and I feel like the Pow Wow steps in for me there. Nowadays there is so much isolation, people are just glued to their phones in their own little worlds. At the Pow Wow, we put our phones away and we prioritize being present with each other. We are always in need of volunteers so do not be shy to reach out to learn more. And if you want to learn how to make frybread, I would be more than happy to show you!

~ What is a fun fact about you? ~
I went to Bible School for 4 years and I am an ordained minister. As mentioned above, I make frybread, but I also do beading for a living. If you are interested in ordering some of my frybread or purchasing some of my jewelry, you can text or call me at 641-481-6496!
