Voices for Children Advocacy Center

**Victim services are on the line!**

Funding that makes services for children suspected to have been sexually abused is at risk nationally. The impact will be devastating for children and adult victim survivors and the communities that support them.

Watch this important piece from MS NOW with CARE House's Blythe Tyler. This Child Advocacy Center is one of the 40 across Michigan serving children in nearly every county in the state.

📣 Contact your representatives and urge them to protect funding for crime victim services.
🤝 Share this video to help raise awareness and make sure more people understand the impact of these decisions.

Every child deserves access to support when they need it most. Our voices can help make sure these essential services remain available.

Intense emotional pain can make it harder to see solutions or to connect with support. When su***de seems like the only option, its not that other solutions don’t exist, rather you are currently unable to see them.

Therapists, counselors, friends, or loved ones can help you see solutions that may not be apparent to you. Please give them a chance to help.

Michigan’s 40 Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) see this as an important moment to recognize a critical reality: child abuse occurs in every type of community, and protecting children requires awareness, prevention and action.

Children often delay disclosure because they fear they won’t be believed, worry about the consequences, or lack the words to describe what happened. When they find the courage to speak, adults must be prepared to listen, believe and act.

We are learning that mandated reporters did not consistently uphold their responsibilities to report suspected abuse. Michigan law requires professionals who work with children, including educators, coaches, medical professionals and clergy, to report suspected abuse to Child Protective Services.

Cases like this remind us that mandated reporters play a critical role in protecting children and connecting them to help. Organizations must create cultures where concerns are welcomed, reports are taken seriously, transparency is valued over reputation, and every adult understands that protecting children is a shared responsibility. Strong prevention practices, training, clear reporting pathways and independent accountability are essential safeguards.

In its statement about its investigation, Interlochen declared that “protecting students is central to everything we do,” including “mandatory training for all employees” and “multiple reporting channels,” and pledged a culture that “prioritizes accountability, transparency, integrity and continuing improvement.” These commitments align with the values and priorities of CACs across Michigan and provide important standards for organizations serving children.

CACs play a vital role in supporting children and families affected by abuse. By bringing together law enforcement, child protection, medical professionals, prosecutors and mental health providers, CACs provide a coordinated, child-focused response. Every day, CACs across Michigan help children tell their stories once, access services and begin healing.
