🦌 YOUTH DEER SEASON STARTS TOMORROW — DON'T FORGET THOSE HIDES! 🦌

Minnesota's Youth Deer Season kicks off tomorrow, and we're reminding hunters to donate your deer hides to MDHA's Hides For Habitat program!

Some of our BIG ORANGE collection boxes are already out and ready for your hides!

Don't see a box in your area yet? No problem! Simply place your deer hide in a paper bag and freeze it until a collection box becomes available near you.

More Hides For Habitat boxes will be popping up across Minnesota as we get closer to fi****ms deer season!

Your donated hides help support wildlife habitat conservation and Minnesota's hunting heritage!

Good luck to all our youth hunters, and THANK YOU for supporting Hides For Habitat!

WOLF DELISTING UPDATE: FEDERAL JUDGES QUESTION WHEN WOLVES ARE CONSIDERED RECOVERED

An important hearing took place yesterday before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that could impact the future of wolf management in Minnesota.

During arguments, Judge Richard Tallman raised a critical question: "How far do we go before we say this species has recovered and the species is no longer in danger?"

Federal attorneys defended the decision to remove Endangered Species Act protections and return wolf management authority to the states. Opponents argued that wolf recovery remains incomplete in portions of the country.

For Minnesota, the stakes are significant.

MDHA continues to support federal wolf delisting and the return of responsible, science-based wolf management to Minnesota.

While no ruling has been issued, this case could play an important role in determining the future of wolf management in our state.

MDHA will continue following the proceedings and advocating for Minnesota's ability to manage its wolf population, including a regulated management season when legally authorized.

We will keep Minnesota deer hunters informed as this case develops.

WOLF DELISTING UPDATE: FEDERAL APPEALS COURT HEARS ARGUMENTS

An important step in the ongoing effort to determine the future of gray wolf management took place today, as the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments involving federal wolf protections.

At issue is the 2020 federal decision to remove gray wolves from Endangered Species Act protections, a decision later overturned by a federal court.

What does this mean for Minnesota?

The outcome could have significant implications for whether Minnesota regains authority to manage its wolf population at the state level.

No ruling has been announced, and wolves in Minnesota remain federally protected.

The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association is closely following this case and will share additional information as details from the hearing become available.

Stay tuned for updates from MDHA.

A huge THANK YOU to the MDHA chapters and community partners stepping up to support the MDHA & Roger Up Veteran Hunts! 🇺🇸🦌

Special thanks to our $1,000 Deer Stand Sponsors — Clay Wilkin Chapter, Itasca Chapter, Woodland Chapter, Bend of the River Chapter, First Call for Help, and Park Rapids Chapter, Des Moines Valley Chapter — along with our $500 Sponsors, Thief River Falls Chapter and Snake River Chapter.

Taking veterans hunting is about much more than harvesting a deer. It’s about camaraderie, purpose, time outdoors, and bringing veterans together with people who understand the value of simply sharing a deer stand and a hunting camp. For some, it’s a return to a tradition they love. For others, it may be their first opportunity to experience deer hunting.

These sponsors are helping us provide the equipment, facilities, mentorship, and opportunities needed to make these hunts possible.

Thank you for investing in our veterans and helping MDHA and Roger Up share Minnesota’s deer hunting tradition with those who have given so much. 🇺🇸

🦌 MINNESOTA DEER HUNTERS — DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!

The Minnesota DNR is encouraging hunters to buy their deer licenses early this year as everyone gets accustomed to the state’s new electronic licensing system.

The new system is up and running, but your first transaction may take a little longer than you’re used to. Some hunters may also need assistance from the DNR License Center if they had multiple records in the old system.

Last year, nearly 140,000 deer licenses were purchased during the Thursday and Friday immediately before the fi****ms opener. With more than 400,000 hunters expected to participate this year, getting your license early can help you avoid last-minute problems.

📅 2026 Fi****ms Deer Opener: Saturday, November 7

Licenses can be purchased:
📱 Through the Minnesota DNR Licensing app
💻 Online at mndnr.gov/buyalicense
🏪 In person at participating license agents

You can carry your license as a paper copy, PDF, or electronically in the app.

Our advice: Take care of it now and make one less thing to worry about when deer season arrives.

Good luck this season, and hunt safe!

🏹🦌🎣 CELEBRATING THE GREAT OUTDOORS!

This weekend we celebrate two things that mean a whole lot to Minnesota’s hunters, anglers and conservationists.

🎣 September 26 — National Hunting and Fishing Day
🌲 September 27 — National Public Lands Day

Hunting, fishing and public lands are all connected. They provide opportunities to get outdoors, create traditions with family and friends, support wildlife habitat and ensure future generations have places to hunt, fish and explore.

At the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, conservation has always been at the heart of what we do.

Traditions. Conservation. Tomorrow.

Get outside this weekend and enjoy what Minnesota has to offer! 🦌🌲🎣
