🏛️ **2026 Legislative Session Update for Minnesota Hunters**

The 2026 Minnesota legislative session has wrapped up, and there were several important developments affecting hunters, wildlife management, and conservation across our state.

✅ **Crossbows Here to Stay**
Thanks in part to testimony and advocacy efforts, legislation was passed removing the sunset provision on crossbow use during Minnesota's regular archery deer and turkey seasons. This provides long-term certainty for thousands of Minnesota hunters.

🦌 **New Deer Research Investments**
Funding was approved for several important deer-related research projects, including:
• Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) research and improved early detection efforts.
• GPS collar studies examining deer survival, habitat use, predator impacts, and seasonal movements in northwest and central Minnesota.

🐺 **Wolf Research Funding**
Funding was also approved to support wolf population monitoring and management planning on the Leech Lake Reservation to better understand wolf populations and guide future management decisions.

🌲 **Outdoor Heritage Investments**
The Outdoor Heritage Fund continues to support habitat conservation, wildlife management, and land acquisition projects benefiting Minnesota hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Investments will help expand and restore Wildlife Management Areas, Scientific and Natural Areas, and Waterfowl Production Areas across the state.

🎯 **Protecting Hunting Traditions**
Legislation that would have banned certain semi-automatic fi****ms and magazines failed to advance this session, preserving access to commonly used sporting and hunting fi****ms.

Thank you to the members, volunteers, and hunters who stay engaged in the legislative process. Your voice matters, and together we continue working to protect Minnesota's hunting heritage, wildlife habitat, and outdoor traditions for future generations.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives defending our freedoms.

From all of us at the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Your courage and service will never be forgotten.

As we spend time outdoors with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us also take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who served.

We remember. 🇺🇸

MDHA continues to grow, and we are excited to announce our newest chapter — the South Washington County Chapter!

Please join us in welcoming Chapter President David Laes and the entire South Washington County team to the MDHA family.

Year after year, MDHA continues to grow with no end in sight. Hunters, conservationists, and outdoor families across Minnesota continue to support one of the oldest and most trusted hunter-driven conservation organizations in the state.

If you want to be part of an organization that fights for hunters, supports habitat, protects our hunting heritage, and invests in the future of conservation, look no further than MDHA.

Now proudly serving and representing hunters in South Washington County with local leadership and local involvement.

Welcome to another great chapter — great things are ahead!

What an incredible turnout for the 2026 Habitat Seed Day hosted by the MDHA – Thief River Falls Chapter! 🌱🦌

Nearly 200 people picked up habitat seed to improve wildlife habitat. Corn, Soybeans, Clover mix, Brassicas, Rye, and Wheat was available, the support from the community was outstanding!

A huge thank you goes out to the more than 20 volunteers who helped make the day a success — including local youth volunteers and members of the high school trap team. Seeing the next generation stepping up to support conservation and our hunting heritage is what MDHA is all about.

Thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, and supported the mission of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. Together, we are making a difference for wildlife habitat and the future of hunting! 💪🌾

This is where it starts.

At MDHA Forkhorn Camps, kids learn more than shooting — they learn safety, conservation, and respect for the outdoors.

And they’re stepping up. Just this past weekend, our Itasca Chapter had a record roadside cleanup turnout, powered largely by Forkhorn campers. This is happening across the state with all MDHA Chapters.

Now is the time to support this great program and invest in the next generation.

The Minnesota House has now voted 133–0 to approve the removal of the sunset on crossbow use during archery season—making it clear that crossbows are here to stay.

This unanimous support sends a powerful message:
Hunting in Minnesota should be inclusive and accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

At the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, we fully support efforts that open the door for more hunters to get involved, stay active in the outdoors, and carry on our traditions.

More access = more hunters = a stronger future for conservation.
