THIS is why we do it. 🎯

Why our staff works year-round. Why countless volunteers give their time. Why we spend hundreds of hours in meetings across Minnesota. Why we fundraise, plan, organize, and keep pushing forward.

Because of kids like Oliver.

Getting the next generation outdoors. Putting a bow or firearm in their hands for the first time. Teaching them safety, conservation, responsibility, and respect for the outdoors. Giving them an experience that could turn into a lifelong love of hunting and the outdoors.

That’s what the MDHA Forkhorn program is all about.

These camps aren't just about teaching kids how to hunt. They're about keeping Minnesota's outdoor traditions alive for the next generation.

A huge THANK YOU to our partners at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center for helping make this camp possible and for continuing to make the Forkhorn program such a success.

When you support MDHA, volunteer with a chapter, attend a fundraiser, become a member, or simply share what we're doing — this is what you're helping make possible.

And we think that's worth fighting for. 🦌🇺🇸

Please share this and help us get even more Minnesota youth outdoors.

🦌 ARE YOU A MINNESOTA DEER HUNTER?

Then you understand there’s something special about the whitetail deer and the hunting traditions built around it.

Since 1980, the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association has stood for both.

For the whitetail deer that calls Minnesota home.

For the habitat it depends on.

For the hunters who spend every fall pursuing it.

For deer camps, opening mornings, family traditions, and stories passed from one generation to the next.

And for the next generation of Minnesota deer hunters who deserve the opportunity to experience all of it.

For more than four decades, MDHA members and chapters across Minnesota have worked to protect whitetail deer, conserve and improve habitat, support responsible deer management, introduce youth to the outdoors, and stand up for our hunting heritage.

That work continues today.

But our ability to make a difference comes from the hunters who choose to stand with us.

If you believe Minnesota’s whitetail deer and our deer hunting tradition are worth protecting, we invite you to become part of MDHA.

Stand for the deer.
Stand for the habitat.
Stand for the tradition.

Join the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.

Spending the past two weekends at Game Fair, we had a lot of great conversations with deer hunters from across Minnesota.

One topic came up again and again:

We need more places to hunt.

That need is especially noticeable in southern, central and western Minnesota — areas with some great deer country, but where much of the land is privately owned and public hunting opportunities can be limited.

For hunters who don't own land or have an existing connection with a landowner, simply finding a place to hunt can be one of the biggest barriers to getting into the woods.

That's why we're encouraged by some recent news from Minnesota's Walk-In Access Program.

The program has been awarded $2.1 million in federal funding to help maintain and expand public recreational access to private lands over the next three years.

For 2026, approximately 22,000 acres at more than 220 Walk-In Access sites will be available across western, central and southern Minnesota.

That's a good start — but we think there's an opportunity to do much more.

Could expanded Walk-In Access and stronger incentives for private landowners help open thousands of additional acres to Minnesota hunters?

Could increased access also help hunters manage deer populations in areas where public hunting land is limited?

And just as importantly, how do we recruit and retain hunters if they don't have anywhere to hunt?

We want to hear from Minnesota deer hunters: Do we need more private-land access programs in Minnesota?

Read more about the $2.1 million investment, Minnesota's Walk-In Access Program, and why we think hunting access deserves a bigger conversation.

🚨 NOW IT’S TIME TO ACT.

CPL funding has empowered MDHA to support 132 habitat projects, invest over $8 million in on‑the‑ground conservation, improve more than 55,000 acres of habitat, and protect 1,818 acres for public use—bringing lasting wildlife and expanded access for future generations throughout Minnesota .

For FY2027, $13.797 million in CPL funding is geographically restricted, leaving habitat projects across much of Greater Minnesota unable to compete.

We support habitat funding in the metro — but rural Minnesota should not be left behind.

We’re asking Minnesota lawmakers to restore statewide CPL eligibility.

RURAL MINNESOTA LEFT BEHIND?

A major change to Minnesota’s CPL Grant Program restricts $13.797 million in FY2027 funding to the seven-county metro and cities of 50,000+ — leaving much of Greater Minnesota unable to compete.

MDHA believes habitat dollars should support good conservation projects across our entire state.

Read what changed and why we believe statewide CPL eligibility needs to be restored.

🌱 The MDHA food plots are looking GOOD! 🦌

Our Domain Outdoor Comeback Kid and Motherload plots are thriving, and the bucks are definitely taking notice. The alfalfa is getting plenty of attention, and our Motherload plot is looking absolutely amazing.

Healthy plots mean quality forage and better habitat for the deer we all enjoy.

If you’re planning a food plot of your own, we highly recommend Domain Outdoor seed. We’ve been very impressed with the results!
