July 4 may be behind us, but Democracy Café is still on the move! 🇺🇸☕️

There are plenty of opportunities to engage with Democracy Café this year. Pop-ups at events and community gatherings across Grand Rapids are creating welcoming spaces for people to connect and explore the ideas that continue to shape our communities today.

Stop by an upcoming event, or submit a request to have Democracy Café be part of your own gathering.

The July 4 celebrations may be over, but the work of building a stronger Grand Rapids continues. 💪

This week's One Small Step: Invite someone new into the conversation.

Ask a neighbor you don’t know well to grab coffee, sit down with a coworker whose perspective differs from yours, or check in with a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Taking time to truly listen helps build understanding and trust across our community.

You never know what ideas one conversation can spark, or what change may come from it.

There’s no feeling quite like celebrating the Fourth of July in the streets, under the warm summer sun, with your friends, family and neighbors. 🇺🇸

Grand Rapids showed up and showed out to celebrate our country’s Semiquincinetennial. Across neighborhoods and generations, we came together as one community with the shared goal of celebrating where we’ve been and how we can shape the future together.

Every Fourth of July reminds us we’re all created equal — but especially on this momentous 250th Independence Day.

So, here’s to 250. Here’s to Grand Rapids. Here’s to you. ❤️

This July 4 weekend was one to remember! 🎉 Citizens across Grand Rapids of all ages and backgrounds gathered to celebrate America's Semiquincentennial in a number of ways. We watched parades, talked democracy at Democracy Café pop-ups across the city, enjoyed a brilliant fireworks show and live orchestra at Picnic Pops, and committed to taking small but mighty steps toward making a positive impact on our communities.

We'd like to extend a huge thank-you to the GR A250 team, including our awesome interns, for making this Independence Day such a success. This wouldn't be possible without our many volunteers, subcommittee and steering committee members, and of course, without YOU — the people of Grand Rapids. 👏

There's still plenty of celebration and civic commitment left for 2026! Be sure to visit gra250.com to learn more about how you can get involved.

The day we've all been waiting for is finally here: America officially turns 250 years old!

For the past year, GR A250 has been building toward this moment.

Through conversations, celebrations, community events, shared stories and new experiences, people across Grand Rapids have come together to reflect on what connects us, what we value and the future we want to shape together.

Today, as we celebrate America’s 250th, we also celebrate the people who made this movement meaningful: Grand Rapids neighbors, families, organizations, volunteers, students, leaders and community members who showed up to participate in something bigger than themselves.

This milestone belongs to all of us. Happy Fourth of July, Grand Rapids 🇺🇸

Long before America was gearing up to celebrate its 250th anniversary, Grand Rapids came together to mark the nation's 100th birthday.

In 1876, residents decorated downtown streets, gathered for parades and festivities and celebrated the Centennial alongside communities across the country. More than a century later, that same spirit of community continues as we prepare to celebrate another historic milestone together this weekend.
