HISTORY OF THE GREIU

1950 - CITY EMPLOYEES WERE CHARTERED AS LOCAL 1061 WITH AFSCME

1966 - CITY EMPLOYEES RECEIVED THEIR FIRST CONTRACT

1969 - CITY EMPLOYEES HELD THEIR FIRST STRIKE LASTING 3 DAYS

1974 - CITY EMPLOYEES HELD THEIR SECOND STRIKE FOR 19 DAYS

1980 - CITY EMPLOYEES HELD THEIR THIRD STRIKE FOR 88 DAYS

1987 - FORMED THE GRAND RAPIDS EMPLOYEES INDEPENDENT UNION

GREIU has had a busy summer. Our Annual Summer Picnic, Happy Hour and another Appreciation Lunch. Big shoutout to the Heartbeat Committee and Executive Board for their continued hard work and focus on building an even stronger Union. These events would not be possible without them! We look forward to the rest of the year!

Yesterday we had our first Member Appreciation lunch of the year. We served 363 lunches to very happy members. The GREIU wants to thank all of its Members for there continued hard work and dedication. We love to see the faces from all of our Units, to meet new members and see those who have been with the Union a long time. We look forward to serving you again at our next event.
