The 8th was a wonderful Saturday workday along Lamberton Creek in Riverside Park with the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks volunteer Conservation Crew. There were 14 of us cutting down invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle, opening up the forest floor and providing space for natives to return. Thank you to all the volunteers who joined and to the tireless Melanie Manion for coordinating, leading, and inspiring. Can't wait to see what starts to pop up there next Spring.
The next opportunity to engage with Lamberton Creek is this coming Saturday Nov 22 then again Nov 29 same time at St. Andrews Episcopal Church 1025 3 Mile Rd. NE. You may have seen this in the news (link to story below), but the church recently hired a squad a goats to eat up the invasive bittersweet and buckthorn in their woods. The two upcoming workdays will be hauling brush and limbs, cutting large vines and daubing. All are welcome and needed! See their Facebook post linked below.
