🍀Macey Niewind, Grand Rapids High School Class of 2026 & Itasca County 4-H Federation Youth Treasurer 2025-2026
"Over the past 12 years, I have learned so much, not only about myself, but also about the skills I have developed. By helping younger kids with their projects and giving advice when they are struggling with their animals, I have built leadership, communication, patience, and problem-solving skills. These experiences have taught me that everyone deserves the chance to learn new things and continue growing. I have also learned that I truly enjoy being in a leadership role because it gives me the opportunity to guide, encourage, and support younger youth.
Throughout my years, I have been involved in many projects, but some of my favorite experiences have been the horse project, dog project, and serving as treasurer for the federation. I also enjoyed being president and vice president of the dog project.
Through these roles, I have learned valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, responsibility, and financial management. Being a federation officer has taught me how to work well with others and how to help manage the finances of the county clubs.
One of my favorite memories in 4-H was going to the State Horse Show two years in a row with the drill team. There was something so special about riding in the coliseum at 5:30 in the morning and hearing all the horses around me. It felt exciting, peaceful, and unforgettable all at the same time. Getting to share that experience with my team and my mom made it even more meaningful, and it is a memory I will always hold close.
My plans are to attend Minnesota State University Moorhead this fall to earn my entrepreneurship certificate. After that, I hope to continue my education and work toward a diploma in business administration.
I would have to say that my 4-H Extension Leader, Courtney Johnson, has been a very important role model to me over the past two years that I have had the pleasure of working alongside her. She always works hard to make sure not only the youth, but also the parents, have a positive experience. The time and effort she has put into making Itasca County 4-H the best it can be is truly inspiring. I would also like to thank my parents, because I would not have been able to participate in 4-H without their support. From hauling my horse, to bringing me to dog shows and meetings when I could not drive, they have always encouraged me to be a better leader and to stay responsible and reliable in the clubs I have been a part of."
