Happy World Bee Day! 🐝🌼 Today we’re celebrating the tiny pollinators that play such a BIG role in our gardens, food systems, and environment. Bees help pollinate many of the fruits, vegetables, and flowers we enjoy every day — including many growing right here in our Brown Elementary Learning Garden! 🌱

Happy World Bee Day 🌼🐝
To make a prairie it takes a clover and one bee,
One clover, and a bee . . . -Emily Dickinson
One mature tree can have millions of flowers - don't cut it down.
One native seed planted can rematriate a meadow.
One backyard garden can link to millions of bee-yards for bees of every stripe around the world!
Do it for yourself, your grandchildren...and the bees🐝Bzzzzzzzzz! What are your favorite pollinator plants?

THANK YOU! We had such a great time at our Brown Elementary Learning Garden Kickoff Plant Day on May 8th! 🌱☀️

We focused on weeding, cleaning beds, planting seeds, watering, and enjoying some sunshine together. A big thank you to the Master Gardeners from the Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener Program for sharing tips on SMART gardening; starting home gardens, sustainable gardening, and pollinator-friendly landscapes!

We’re excited for our next garden event on Tuesday, May 26th, where we’ll be planting flowers and plants from Kapteyn Farms and continuing to get the garden summer-ready. 🌼 Event Info Here > https://www.facebook.com/share/1GwBcv27Sf/

Come join us, bring a friend, and help us grow something special for our school community! If you'd like to get involved, feel free to reach out anytime. 💚

One of the things I’ve really come to appreciate is our connection to the Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener Program. It’s not just gardening tips—it’s actually research-based learning that gets shared out into communities like ours.

The program trains volunteers in things like:
🌱 Sustainable gardening
🌼 Soil, plants, and pollination
🥕 Growing food in healthy, practical ways

And then those volunteers give back through projects—like this one! ...school gardens, community spaces, and educational programs. 🌿
That’s part of what’s helping shape what we’re doing at Brown, which I think is pretty special. If you’re curious about it, here’s the link to learn more:

Now I’m curious 😊

💬 What are you thinking about planting this year?
💬 Or if your kids could pick—what would they want to grow in the school garden?

We’re open to ideas! Veggies, herbs, flowers…especially anything that helps pollinators 🐝 Be sure to check out the zones in Kent County, Michigan is in Zone 6A. https://www.canr.msu.edu/resources/garden_planning_calendar

Also, if you’ve got gardening questions at all—big or small—feel free to ask. I’m learning right alongside everyone else here.

And if being part of the garden sounds even a little interesting, I’d love to connect 💚.
