Church World Service expressed its deep concern over a report that the Trump administration intends to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 9,000 Afghans and 3,000 Cameroonians living in the United States. The decision will have dire consequences for Afghans and Cameroonians who have built lives, filled essential jobs, started businesses, and contributed to our communities. The termination of protected status for these populations comes as humanitarian crises deepen in both Afghanistan and Cameroon.

Join our incredible community for a special event on Thursday, February 20, as we aim to raise awareness and mobilize local churches in West Michigan to welcome refugee newcomers into our community.

Due to recent administrative actions, funding has been indefinitely paused, creating a critical gap in financial and sponsor support for those in need. In addition to raising awareness, this event will serve as a fundraising initiative to support Church World Service in Grand Rapids as we continue providing essential services to newcomers.

Today, three newcomer families arrived to Grand Rapids and found a safe place to call home.

Every detail—from setting up furniture to stocking the fridge to welcoming families at the airport—was done with incredible teamwork, thoughtfulness and care.

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible generosity of Grand Rapids Neighbors for Neighbors, who donated an abundance of women’s and children’s coats to our new CWS Grand Rapids office! 💙 These coats will bring warmth and comfort to so many families in need this winter.

Your kindness and welcoming spirit mean the world to us as we settle into this amazing community. Together, we’re building a neighborhood where everyone belongs.

It’s been a busy December as our team welcomes 47 newcomers to the community this month! Here is a sneak peek at a house that we prepared today for a family of four arriving at the airport as I post this! Huge thank you to the community members who donated to help make this house feel like a home! We couldn’t do this work without you!
