Thank you to the teachers who presented about various beginner piano method books at our October meeting. We learned so much! GVSU piano pedagogy major Eliana Drozdowski told us all about Helen Marlais' method called, Succeeding at the Piano; Joy Holtrop shared about Faber's Piano Adventures; Cheri TenHaaf Verheyshowed us Irina Gorin's method, Tales of a Musical Journey; Amanda Knoll showed us the Alfred Premier Piano Course and Bastien books; Michele Wells talked about Piano Safari; and Vivian Kleinhuisen showed us Frances Clark's Music Tree.

Congratulations to Vincent Frank Music Studio for his fascinating presentation at the state conference on Federico Garcia Lorca's folk songs, which Vincent cleverly arranged for solo and duo piano. Michele Wells helped him demonstrate a couple of the duets and one solo.

You can purchase a digital download of this collection entitled, "Canciones Espanola Antiguas" here: https://www.vincentfrankmusic.com/shop/p/canciones-espaolas-antiguas-intermediate-piano-solos-duets-digital-download?fbclid=IwY2xjawUugMBleHRuA2FlbQIxMABwZG9mAWJyaWQRMUU5OWtUWVlXM2ZOMndVdjdzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEegedmUNdd75HfWFzGW97S5FDMPRvbXcGIWKpICXM1UqeVCXggFSYJn4a51BY_aem_3AHacs_dk20tVBHl5fUJgQ

Congratulations to Sookkyung Cho for her delightful presentation at the MTNA state conference about an 8-hands, 1-piano project that she did with her GVSU students! Edward Neeman worked with Dr Cho and her students to arrange three famous operatic pieces for piano: Overture to Marriage of Figaro (Mozart), Waltz from Faust (Charles Gounod), and Bacchanale (Camille Saint-Saëns). If you've ever tried to find piano arrangements for 8 hands, you know the repertoire is very limited. This is an exciting addition to the options.

Congratulations, Sookkyung! What a fun project and presentation!

This year our own amazing Bernadine Johnson was the commissioned composer for the state conference. Each attendee received a complimentary copy of her clever piece entitled, "The Bach Beat". Just one more reason teachers love going to the state conference! Congratulations, Bernadine!

Hey fellow teachers! I'd like to have a few books to show people at our member roundtable discussion in October. We'll be comparing method books, but I'd like to also show non-method options for beginners. If you happen to own these and would be willing to let us look at them, please let me (Michele) know!

Piano Literature Book 1 edited by Keith Snell
Masterwork Classics Book 1 edited by Jane McGrath
Piano Literature Book 1 edited by Faber and Faber
or anything similar to these non-method books that teach early classical pieces in their original form.
