Hope for Single Moms

Hope for Single Moms Hope for Single Moms empowers single moms to rediscover who they are through career support, faith, and community. There are four pillars to our program.

We help break the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures for their families. Hope for Single Moms is the only nonprofit in Michigan with the sole focus of removing the barriers single moms have to getting a career education. HSM uses a teach-a-woman-to-fish approach to financial stability and family unity. This incorporates career training, budgeting, parenting advice/classes, and family time

. Rather than re-invent the wheel, Hope for Single Moms networks with area social services, colleges and trade programs, and other nonprofits serving low-income families. They then raise a family team of support, a Dream team, to help with the unmet needs. HSM believes a comprehensive approach is essential to building strong families. Each student parent has a mentor and a life assistance team. A mom mentor checks with her “mom” weekly and arranges time together, monthly. She also makes sure “her family” makes the time and has the resources for activities, meals together and to establish family traditions. The life assistance team, with the mentor, makes sure their “mom” and “children’s” birthdays are celebrated. The team also helps regarding any special need that arises, such as meals during school projects, midterms and finals. They may address transportation or childcare issues or refer them to the organization. Hope for Single Moms Dream team donations go to their family. The team is invited to celebrate their client’s graduation. HSM gives West Michigan the opportunity to help these families with a back-to-school drive, and Christmas gift and Easter basket drives. HSM also holds an annual fashion show fundraiser, Fashion for a Future. In addition to donations, it raises the community’s awareness of the single mom family struggle. Fighting poverty and childhood hunger in single mom families is complex. Addressing it is as variable as the circumstances that got these families there. Love and encouragement go a long way toward a single mom success story. Our FREE career consultation not only gives single moms a career path and goal, but we assess whether she is ready to be successful at school, parenting and homework. We want her to have a firm foundation, so she has the best chance of success. EDUCATION - A career education is the key to moving single mom families from poverty to prosperity. In fact, a post-high school education will double her lifetime earnings. MENTORING - Areas available are academic (see our free career consultation), emotional, financial and spiritual. COMMUNITY - Hope for Single Moms will connect clients with a single mom support group. We will also provide community with other student parents. Our goal is to have churches provide special events just for the moms, as well as family events. LIFE ASSISTANCE - For that reason, Hope for Single Moms wants every mom to have a mentor as part of her life assistance team. This team serves as her second “family” and helps with the challenges life brings her way. See how your church can have a life assistance team.

💼 Not every career pathway starts with a four-year degree.

Sometimes OPPORTUNITY looks like training.

A certification.

Hands-on experience.

A paid internship.

A mentor.

And someone willing to open a door.

Through HOPE Workforce Institute, women gain the skills, career preparation, professional experience, and support they need to move toward meaningful employment and financial self-sufficiency.

Women like Candace. 💛

Her pathway may look different from a mom pursuing a college degree, but the destination is the same:

A sustainable career.
Financial independence.
A stronger future for her family.

Because there is more than one path to opportunity.

💛 Invest in workforce opportunity. Fund HER Future.

And this October, come meet and celebrate the women behind these journeys at Fashion for a Future 2026.

🎓 SOMETIMES OPPORTUNITY LOOKS LIKE A TEXTBOOK.

Or a laptop.

A certification.

Work shoes.

Tuition assistance.

A paid internship.

On their own, these may look like expenses. But for a single mother working toward financial self-sufficiency, they can be the tools that help build a career.

Through HOPE for Single Moms' College & Trades Program and HOPE Workforce Institute, moms are pursuing degrees, completing career training, gaining professional experience, and preparing for careers that can change the future for their families.

💻 $450 can provide a laptop a mom needs to complete assignments, build her résumé, apply for jobs, and prepare for her career.

💼 $500 can support a paid internship that provides experience, professional connections, and a stronger résumé.

🎓 $1,500 can help cover unmet tuition and keep a mom moving toward her degree.

This is what it means to Fund HER Future.

RESOURCE → OPPORTUNITY → CAREER → ECONOMIC MOBILITY

Your investment doesn't simply pay for something she needs today.

It helps create a pathway toward what she's working for tomorrow. 💛

✨ Invest in her pathway. Fund HER Future.

🎒 Back-to-school season is here!

As our HOPE families prepare for another school year, we're reminded of what can happen when our community comes together to support moms and their children.

Last year, Kesslers Diamonds helped make back-to-school a little brighter for our HOPE kids through their generous backpack and school supply drive. 💛 We are so grateful for their support and for community partners who step up to help remove everyday barriers for our families.

Because sometimes providing stability looks like transportation, childcare, groceries, or simply making sure your child has what they need to walk into school feeling prepared and confident.

This year, YOU can help us continue that support! 🎒✏️📚

Your gift to our Back to School Drive helps HOPE families prepare their children for a successful school year.

💛 Give today:

Thank you, Kesslers Diamonds, for showing what it looks like when community creates opportunity.

Sometimes the difference between dropping out and moving forward is having the resources to keep going.

Transportation. Childcare. Housing. Utilities. Internet. A working phone.

They may seem like everyday necessities, but for a single mom pursuing an education or building a career, they can determine whether she is able to show up tomorrow and keep moving forward.

That is why Fashion for a Future is about so much more than one evening.

Together, our community helps create the stability that allows moms to pursue education, build careers, and create brighter futures for their children. 💛

👗 Join us October 22 for Fashion for a Future and be part of creating opportunity.

Every parent dreams of creating a better future for their children. 💛

For Courtney, that meant earning her degree, building a career, becoming a homeowner, and creating something of her own.

Today, she is a GVSU graduate, entrepreneur, and founder of Courtney Cares Cleaning.

Her story is a reminder that the dream was never the problem.

Sometimes, moms simply need the stability and support that make it possible to keep moving forward.

At HOPE for Single Moms, we help remove barriers so moms can pursue education, meaningful careers, and financial independence while building a stronger future for their children.

✨ The difference isn't the dream. It's the barriers.

Follow along as we share more stories of HOPE and opportunity leading up to Fashion for a Future.

For moms like Nekia, going back to school means building a brighter future for the whole family. 🎓💛

At HOPE for Single Moms, we remove barriers by helping with needs like textbooks, transportation, children’s clothing and pantry essentials. This support gives moms the opportunity to focus on their education, reach their goals and create lasting change for their families.

When we empower moms like Nekia, we create opportunities for generations to come.

Help us reach our $3,200 back-to-school goal and remove barriers for four HOPE for Single Moms families. Every gift helps a mom move one step closer to her goals!

🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL.
💙 BACK TO OPPORTUNITY.
✨ BACK TO TRANSFORMING FAMILIES.

For most families, August means shopping for backpacks, gathering school supplies, and preparing children for a new school year.

For four incredible HOPE for Single Moms families, it also means registering for college classes, purchasing textbooks, finding gas money to get to campus, and balancing parenting, work, and education.

**Our August goal is to raise $3,200 to help four single-mother families begin the school year with confidence.**

Your support will help provide:

📚 College textbooks
⛽ Gas cards
🎒 Back-to-school essentials for four children
🥫 Pantry staples for four families

When a single mother earns a degree, she doesn’t just change her own life—she changes the trajectory of her entire family.

Every dollar removes a barrier. Every gift creates opportunity.

Together, we’re creating opportunity—one semester, one family, and one future at a time.
