FHPS Foundation Grant Spotlight
The Hawk’s Nest is officially open at Forest Hills Eastern!
Last spring, the FHPS Foundation approved a grant to help bring this student-run coffee shop to life, funding everything from an espresso machine and coffee maker to aprons, hats, a utility cart, name tags and a hot water urn.
But the real impact? The opportunity for students to learn, practice and build valuable real-world skills.
Over the past several weeks, students in the Forest Hills Eastern Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) program have been preparing for opening day by learning how to take orders, operate a cash register and card reader, make change and prepare a variety of coffee, tea and hot chocolate drinks.
Now, they’re putting those skills into action – one order at a time.
This is what Foundation grants are all about: investing in students, creating opportunities and helping bring innovative learning experiences to life.
Cheers to the Hawk’s Nest!
