When family and business mix, “fair” can get complicated.

At Dollars & Sense: Compensation Strategies, FBA members tackled the questions that don’t always have easy answers: Who gets hired? Who gets promoted? How is pay determined? And what does “fair” actually look like when some employees share a last name?

One takeaway came through loud and clear: Fair doesn’t always mean equal. Clear expectations, consistent processes and honest communication matter.

A big thank you to Leslie Lynch, DBA and Dr. Ana Gonzalez of GVSU’s Seidman College of Business GVSU Family Owned Business Institute (FOBI) for guiding such a practical and engaging conversation!
