It has been about three years since the Grand Rapids City Commission made changes to ordinances with the goal of addressing concerns associated with homeless people downtown.

We recently joined community partners for a Voice of the Customer initiative, listening to the experiences of our unhoused neighbors to better understand their needs and identify ways we can strengthen support throughout Grand Rapids.

By working together and listening first, we're building stronger pathways toward stability, hope, and lasting change.

Our residents had the opportunity to "adopt" a teddy bear, complete with fun costumes, accessories, and adoption certificates. What may seem like a simple stuffed animal became a source of joy, laughter, creativity, and comfort.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this special activity possible. Seeing our residents light up was the best part of the day. ❤️🧸
