✨ FACT FRIDAY: I’M NOT JUST A BIRTH DOULA. I’M A FULL SPECTRUM DOULA. ✨

A lot of people hear “doula” and immediately think pregnancy + labor.

But FULL SPECTRUM means the support can extend far beyond the delivery room.

As a Full Spectrum Doula, I can provide non-clinical education, emotional support, physical comfort, advocacy, preparation, resources, and continuity of care through many different reproductive and family experiences.

That can look like:

🤰🏾 PRENATAL SUPPORT
• Birth planning & birth preferences
• Preparing for labor, delivery & postpartum
• Childbirth education
• Home visits
• Resource navigation
• Preparing partners and support people
• Couple/relationship coaching around the transition into parenthood

🍼 POSTPARTUM & FAMILY SUPPORT
• Postpartum planning
• Newborn education & support
• Feeding & breastfeeding support
• Meal support and postpartum nourishment
• Home visits
• Sibling preparation & coaching
• Helping families adjust to their new normal
• Connecting families to community resources

🌈 REPRODUCTIVE & PREGNANCY SUPPORT
Full-spectrum doulas may also support people experiencing:
• Fertility journeys
• Pregnancy after loss
• Miscarriage
• Stillbirth
• Abortion
• Adoption
• Foster care transitions
• Other reproductive and family-building experiences

🕊️ LOSS, GRIEF & TRANSITIONS
Support can also extend into some of the hardest moments helping families navigate pregnancy or infant loss, grief, remembrance, and the transition that follows.

And YES… sometimes that means helping a family figure out what they need when there are no perfect words.

But here’s what makes this work so important:

A doula DOES NOT replace your doctor, midwife, therapist, lactation professional, social worker, or other licensed provider.

We are a SUPPORTIVE layer of the village.

We educate.
We listen.
We prepare.
We advocate.
We comfort.
We help you find resources.
We help you ask better questions.
We help you build your support system.
And when something is outside our scope, we connect you with the right professional.

Because motherhood doesn’t begin when you get to the hospital.

And support shouldn’t end when the baby arrives.

💜 I support the PERSON, the PREGNANCY, the FAMILY, and the JOURNEY.

That’s Full Spectrum Doula care.

And THAT’S why I’m not just a doula.

I’m part of the village.

Parent Café Update

Due to the current air quality concerns in our community, we will be postponing today’s Parent Café.

The health and safety of our mamas, babies, families, and community members is our priority. With the smoke and poor air quality, we want everyone to stay safe and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure.

We will share the new date and time soon. Thank you for your understanding, and please take care of yourselves and your little ones. 💜

Mamas, please be mindful of the air quality today.

The smoke outside is extremely heavy, and this can be especially concerning for pregnant moms, postpartum moms, babies, young children, and anyone with asthma or respiratory concerns.

If you can, stay indoors, keep windows closed, limit outdoor activities, and take extra precautions. Please check on yourself and your little ones, and don’t ignore symptoms like trouble breathing, chest tightness, dizziness, or feeling unwell.

Take care of yourselves, mamas. 💜

Pregnant mamas, don’t forget to stay hydrated today! Drink your water, rest when you can, and take care of yourself. A healthy mama helps support a healthy baby. 💜

FACT FRIDAY

Did you know?

Many families who need help don’t qualify for every assistance program, and even those who do may still struggle to cover basic necessities like diapers, wipes, hygiene products, clothing, transportation, or emergency household items.

Unlike food, diapers cannot be purchased with SNAP (food assistance) benefits, leaving many parents to choose between buying diapers and paying for other essential expenses.

At THE M.O.M.S Club of Grand Rapids, we’re committed to helping bridge those gaps by connecting families with resources and providing support year-round through community partnerships, diaper distributions, clothing assistance, referrals, and other essential services.

If you or someone you know needs support, don’t hesitate to reach out. If you’re looking for a way to give back, consider donating, volunteering, or partnering with us to help make a difference in the lives of local families.

Together, we can build a stronger, more supported community.
