Composed in April 1776, when Mozart was just 20 years old, this concerto showcases the young composer's burgeoning mastery in the genre of the piano concerto. Mozart did not write cadenzas for this concerto, which is typical for many of his early concertos. Performers often choose cadenzas written by other composers or create their own to showcase their technical and interpretive skills. Nicknamed the "Lützow Concerto" after Countess Antonie von Lützow, who was 17 years old at the time and for whom Mozart likely composed this concerto, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 8 in C major, K. 246, combines the grace and charm characteristic of his early works with hints of the depth and complexity that would define his later compositions. It remains a favorite among both performers and audiences for its lyrical melodies and clear, classical beauty. The Firebird was Stravinsky's breakthrough work, bringing him international fame. The ballet's story is inspired by Russian folk tales of the magical glowing bird that is both a blessing and a curse to its captor. The narrative blends various stories from Russian folklore, making it a rich tapestry of mythological themes.
