Hero Services of Western Michigan is looking for someone with a meaningful story to share at our 2026 Hero’s Ball on November 14.

We’re seeking a speaker who can help us capture what service, sacrifice, resilience, and community truly mean — whether through personal experience, professional service, or a story of the people who have made an impact along the way.

Are you a veteran or first responder with a story to share?
Do you know someone whose journey deserves to be heard?
Have you experienced the impact of service and want to help inspire others?

Hero Services has social clubs built for Veterans and First Responders to connect with others who get it.

💪 Fitness Club: A chat space to talk fitness goals, share encouragement, and enjoy a little friendly competition.
🎣 Sportsmen Society: For Veterans and First Responders who love hunting and fishing. Swap stories, show off your trophies, and coordinate trips with fellow members.

These clubs are a network of fellow Veterans and First Responders you can lean on, whether you're chasing a new PR or planning opening day.

Instilling Honor and Pride to our Heroes

Hero Services is bringing back our gala event, and we're partnering with The Ayo Place in Grandville to host it this year. The Hero's Ball is dedicated to instilling honor and celebrating pride in service for our Veteran and First Responder communities.

📅 Saturday, November 14th
📍 The Ayo Place, Grandville
🎖️ Veterans, Active Duty Military, and First Responders are encouraged to wear dress uniforms.

Expect a night of dinner, dancing, and socializing:
🍽️ Catered dinner
🍸 Cocktails and cash bar
🚬 Cigar bar
🎶 Music and dancing
🎤 Guest speaker

Veterans, First Responders, and all who support them are welcome. A specific timeline of events will be announced as the event develops.

To our first responders and veterans: you show up for others every day. Make sure someone shows up for you.

Stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and burnout are real, and they can affect anyone, no matter how strong or experienced. Asking for help isn't weakness. It's part of staying mission-ready.

💙 Check on your people. A quick, honest "how are you really doing?" can open the door.
💙 Know the signs. Withdrawal, irritability, changes in sleep, increased drinking, or losing interest in things they used to enjoy.
💙 Reach out early. Peer support, chaplains, EAPs, and counselors who understand the job are there for you.

Prevention starts with connection, education, and compassion. Substance use impacts individuals, families, workplaces, and communities—and reducing stigma is an important part of creating space for people to seek support before a crisis occurs.

Prevention isn’t about judgment. It’s about understanding risk, recognizing warning signs, building healthy coping skills, strengthening protective factors, and knowing that asking for help is a sign of strength.

Whether you are supporting a loved one, working in a helping profession, or navigating your own relationship with substances, you don’t have to face it alone.

There are lots of ways to get involved — and you don’t have to commit to a huge time commitment to make a difference!
