Every year on August 13, World Organ Donation Day reminds us of both how far medical science has come and how much work is left to do.

The date honors a monumental moment in healthcare: Dr. Christiaan Barnard’s groundbreaking 1967 heart transplant. But more than a historical milestone, today is a vital reminder of the thousands of men, women, and children currently waiting for a life-saving match.

The gap between those in need of a transplant and the organs available is still vast. Every single day, lives are lost simply because time ran out.

Donor generosity is at the heart of everything we do. Our vision is a future where that generosity is deeply honored, and every recipient, donor family, and living donor has the resources they need to thrive.

Donating to the Transplant Life Foundation allows us to keep building programs that educate the public, support families, and strengthen the national donor movement.

As we transition to planning for the 2028 Transplant Games in Saint Paul, Minnesota, we will conduct a series of educational programs over the next 18 months. These initiatives will help us reach more individuals and families with guidance and resources long before we hit the Twin Cities.

Two years from today, the 2028 Transplant Games of America are heading to Saint Paul, Minnesota, taking place August 4–9, 2028. 🗓️

"The Twin Cities are ready for you," says Wendy Blackshaw, President & CEO of Minnesota Sports and Events.

The Transplant Games are centered around resilience, hope, and the ultimate celebration of the gift of life. 💚 We are thrilled to partner with Minnesota Sports and Events to welcome thousands of athletes, donor families, and supporters to the Twin Cities in 2028.
