Whether you have been a part of the GR.1k since it’s start in 2011 or joined us for the first time in 2024, thank you for making this event an incredible one. Together we have made this short race for a big cause, something special with lots of laughs, hydration and raising money for a great cause, Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy.

Unfortunately, due to a number of reasons, we are not going to continue the GR.1k in 2025. This is the end of an era, but not the end of our fight to end Duchenne muscular dystrophy. We ask that you please continue to support Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy through sponsoring another PPMD West Michigan Event that is close to our heart, Friar Fight Rocks the River. This event is organized by close friends and Forest Hills Central classmates in honor of our son, Kevin, who passed away from Duchenne in 2018. Friar Fight Rocks the River is growing every year and we would love to have you join us for an evening of music and celebration.

Please look to the GR.1k page in the coming weeks for an amazing tribute to all of you that have been a part of the GR.1k over the years and we hope to see you at Friar Fight Rocks the River on July 25, 2025.

As we begin this new year, we would like to thank all those that made the 2024 GR.1k an event to remember....

On behalf of the Friar Family and all those affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the GR.1K Race Committee would like to sincerely thank you for your participation & support for the 13th Annual GR.1K. This race, which is run by a few friends & family, raised over $98k (net) this year and over $714k over the course of 13 years. Thanks to YOUR charitable donations, the GR.1K event continues to make a difference in the lives of our boys with donations funding Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD).

Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy’s mission is to end Duchenne. They accelerate research, raise their voices in Washington, demand optimal care for all young men, and educate the global community. PPMD’s family-centered approach is at the heart of everything they do. As your participation grows, so does their ability to strategically invest and navigate in the fight to end Duchenne. To learn more about Duchenne, visit www.parentprojectmd.org

Thank you for your involvement in our community and we believe that together we can End Duchenne.

Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy fights to end Duchenne. We accelerate research, raise our voices to impact policy, demand optimal care for every single family, and strive to ensure access to approved therapies.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Peterson Family on the loss of their son and brother, Mitchell. As written in the obit link below: “Mitchell's life was a testament to the human spirit's courage and resilience and the inspiration one can bring others despite the challenges they face”. Mitchell was 28 years old.

In response to his initial diagnosis, Mitchell and his family started Mitchell’s Run Thru Rockford (The GR.1K’s much larger and older brother) raising more than 1.5 million dollars to support research and raise awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

More importantly however, was the inspiration he was to the young men and the families that were also battling this terrible disease. Thank you Mitchell for living your life with such grace. We choose to cherish the memories and will always remember that big smile! God bless and prayers of peace.
