Maybe you saw Dorelle‘s work around downtown Grand Rapids this past May. Maybe you’ve seen it in the Amway Grand Plaza during ArtPrize. Or maybe you’ve seen it in any number of Michigan locations over the last several years.

If you know, Dorelle, you might understand why this show is titled “Optimism.”

Cocktails + Cross-Pollination grew out of an observation by two diverse leaders who noticed they were often the only ones who looked like them in their respective networks.

They created this to allow people to get to know one another as humans. Each event is simple: food, drinks, and conversation.
To keep the focus on connection, we follow three rules:
Use first names only.
Try not to talk about work — talk about what’s important to you!
No posturing — be yourself!

FEATURED ARTIST: GRACE HAGGARD

In her artist interview, Grace Haggard describes making art as a source of joy and a way to get lost in the creative process, away from the craziness of the world.

When asked about inspiration, she cites mood, feelings, and music, which she listens to while painting for energy and momentum.

She also notes the influence of free-thinking artists who move beyond traditional approaches to painting, including Picasso.

TOMORROW — BETWEEN CHAOS & SILENCE brings together selected works from different periods and series of Merima’s life, connected through themes of emotional tension, memory, fragmentation, silence, and transformation.

Working through abstraction and symbolic visual language, the exhibition explores the space between intensity and stillness, where gesture, instinct, personal history, and emotional traces intersect. The works move between layered surfaces, expressive marks, moments of rupture, and quieter meditative passages, reflecting an ongoing process of excavation and reconstruction.

“I cannot paint without entering an emotional state; the work only becomes real when I fully connect with what I’m feeling, whether that is chaos, pressure, silence, or complete stillness.” - Merima Smajlović.

At its core, the exhibition examines the fragile balance between chaos and silence, not as opposites, but as interconnected states that continuously shape one another.

Sri McCarthy is an artist of tremendous versatility, utilizing a wide range of media to express her unique view of the world.

“I woke up one day and art found me. It follows me wherever I go. My father once said to me, ‘There is no such thing as ugly. Change your lens and you will find beauty in everything you see.’ THIS I believe!” - Sri McCarthy

“OPTIMISM, Work by Dorelle Henri” features artwork inspired by many icons of animated pop culture, deconstructed to essential abstract forms.

Working for several years in a corporate environment, Dorelle recently turned his attention fully to his creative side while utilizing the invaluable and innate skills he honed in marketing and business.

Dorelle is responsible for the extremely popular city-wide scavenger hunt “Peace it Together”, an inclusive and creative initiative in partnership with DGRI which garnered tremendous public interest and participation, a contest from April 12th to May 17th.

Among many of the artists original paintings, this exhibit will feature elements of the scavenger hunt, and will also acknowledge the host venues.

Join us Friday, June 12th 6-8pm for complimentary refreshments and some incredible art, and a chance to hear from this truly prolific artist!

On June 3, the AllArtWorks Viewing Studio presents a solo exhibition of works by Merima Smajlović.

Born in Sarajevo and now based in Michigan, Merima’s work explores identity, migration, memory, language, and cultural heritage through layered abstraction, symbols, and mixed media compositions. Drawing from Bosančica script and the visual languages of multiple cultures, her paintings create a powerful dialogue between old worlds and new ones.

Join us Tuesday, June 3 from 6–8 PM for an evening surrounded by vibrant contemporary works that blur the lines between painting, language, and storytelling. Experience one of West Michigan’s distinctive contemporary voices in an intimate solo presentation at the Viewing Studio.
