As Juneteenth approaches, we honor the leadership, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans while reflecting on the ongoing work of building more equitable and just communities.

As our community gathers to celebrate through events, education, and connection, we encourage everyone to take time to learn, listen, and engage. At Safe Haven Ministries, we believe that every individual deserves safety, dignity, and the opportunity to thrive.

For more than seven years, Bill Stevenson was a familiar and welcoming presence at Safe Haven Ministries. Every Wednesday afternoon, he greeted staff, answered phones, welcomed visitors, and offered a calm, caring presence to those walking through our doors, often during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Bill's impact on Safe Haven extends far beyond his volunteer hours. He, Rosemary, and their family have been a faithful part of the Safe Haven story for decades, supporting our mission from its earliest days and helping create a foundation of compassion, generosity, and service that continues today. Through his quiet commitment, Bill embodied the belief that every person deserves to be met with dignity, kindness, and hope.

Just weeks before his passing, we were honored to present Bill with Safe Haven's first-ever Magnolia Heart & Hand Award, recognizing his extraordinary service and the countless lives he touched through his steady presence and caring spirit. It was a fitting tribute to someone who lived out his faith not only in words, but through thousands of hours spent welcoming others.

Bill reminded us that welcome is a profound gift. His legacy lives on in the survivors he encouraged, the staff he supported, and the community he helped build. We are deeply grateful for Bill, the Stevenson family, and the lasting impact they have had on Safe Haven Ministries.

Safe Haven Ministries is grateful to be named one of 57 United Way grantees selected from 181 applicants.

Our proposal focuses on youth violence prevention, supporting our continued work to equip young people and communities with education, tools, and resources that help prevent violence before it begins.

At Monday’s Heart of West Michigan United Way Celebration Breakfast, Praxis Training and Education Manager Mykal Ward and Praxis Director Tony Tendero connected with fellow grantees from Allegan, Ottawa, and Kent counties. We are encouraged by the opportunity to strengthen partnerships across our region and continue connecting education with action.

Together, we are working toward how education and action will create safer communities for all.

At Safe Haven Ministries, we believe everyone deserves to live free from violence, fear, and exploitation. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive space for all survivors, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

We recognize that members of the LGBTQIA+ community often face unique barriers when seeking safety and support. This month, and throughout the year, we reaffirm our commitment to listening, advocating, and ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

You deserve healthy relationships. You deserve to feel safe. You belong here.

Today is the final day to double your impact.

Right now, every gift to Safe Haven Ministries will be matched dollar-for-dollar thanks to an anonymous donor. Your support helps provide advocacy, shelter, prevention education, and compassionate care for individuals and families navigating abuse and uncertainty.

There is still time to help create safety, stability, and hope for survivors in our community. Make your gift before the match ends tonight and help us continue this critical work.

Give today and double your impact. https://safehavenministries.org/support/
