Today, on Women’s Equality Day, we recognize the progress made toward equality while acknowledging the work that continues.

We believe every woman deserves to have her voice heard, her choices respected, and the opportunity to live free from violence and abuse.

When women experience safety, dignity, and support, they have greater opportunity to heal, families can flourish, and communities can grow stronger.

Human trafficking often intersects with cases involving missing youth.

According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, in 2025:

• More than 113,500 reports of possible child s*x trafficking were received.
• 1 in 7 of the 32,000 missing children reports likely involved trafficking.

Traffickers often build relationships with youth to establish trust, debunking the myth that children are often "snatched" or "grabbed" in parking lots or by white vans.

We were excited to host another End of Summer Social this week to help launch kids and families into a successful school year. We had hot dogs, walking tacos, cookie decorating, temporary tattoos, a bubble station, crafts, Double Dutch, and all kinds of water activities.

Kiddos also got to pick out plenty of goodies for the new school year—backpacks, school supplies, and clothes.

While we don’t post photos of clients, here are a couple of pics of staff getting in on the fun too! It was a blast for everyone.

On World Humanitarian Day, we recognize those who show up with compassion, courage, and care for people experiencing crisis.

At Safe Haven Ministries, we see the power of that care every day. From advocates and volunteers to donors and community partners, each person plays a role in helping survivors find safety, support, and hope.

Today, we honor all who choose to help.

Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities, both across the country and here in West Michigan.

We believe everyone deserves access to support that feels safe, welcoming, and understanding. Our bilingual and bicultural staff help ensure Spanish-speaking survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking can access advocacy, shelter and housing support, and other services with care and empathy.

Safe Haven Ministries celebrates the diversity that strengthens our community and remains committed to making support accessible to all.

Every year, we look forward to connecting with our faith partners because supporting survivors and preventing violence takes a community. This year's gathering will also include a discussion on the role of AI and relationships. A light breakfast and refreshments will be provided.

Supporting survivors and preventing violence takes a community, and we are honored to have so many join ours as we work together for a safer future!

One of the most persistent myths about trafficking is the question, “Why didn’t they just leave?”

The reality is that traffickers often rely on manipulation, fear, emotional control, and dependency.

Many survivors face threats, isolation, financial control, or pressure placed on their families.

Understanding these dynamics helps us see exploitation more clearly and respond with compassion instead of judgment.
