Susan Mast ALS Foundation The Susan Mast ALS Foundation serves ALS patients, families and caregivers in West Michigan.

The Susan Mast ALS Foundation was created in loving memory of Susan Mast who passed away from ALS in 2014. Susan was the Executive Director at Faith Hospice and her passion in life was to help others in time of need. The Mast family is dedicated to keeping her memory alive so they created the foundation. The foundation offers support groups, educational seminars, loan closet, meALS program, respite and other areas of services - but most of all a helping and loving hand as they deal with the challenges of living with ALS.

A neighborhood walk, a game night, a dinner with friends, or another idea that feels like you can become a meaningful way to raise support and awareness. Your gathering doesn’t have to be large to make a difference.

A reminder that you have a place to come as you are.

Our next All-Inclusive Support Group meets Monday, October 16 at 1:00 p.m. on Zoom. You’re welcome to share what you’re experiencing, ask a question, or simply listen. There’s no pressure to have the right words.

Staff Spotlight: Heather Johnson

Meet Heather Johnson, our Care Services Manager at the Susan Mast ALS Foundation!

Heather plays an important role in supporting individuals and families living with ALS throughout West Michigan. She works closely with our families to understand their needs, connect them with resources, coordinate support, and help make an incredibly difficult journey a little easier.

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Heather brings both professional experience and a compassionate, practical approach to her work. Most importantly, she truly cares about the families we serve.

Whether she is helping coordinate equipment, checking in with a family, assisting with respite care needs, or simply being there to listen, Heather is always willing to step in wherever she is needed.

We are so grateful to have Heather as part of our Susan Mast ALS Foundation team and for the heart she brings to our mission every day.

Support looks different for every family living with ALS.

Sometimes it’s a meal during a demanding week. Sometimes it’s time for a caregiver to rest, a chance to connect with others who understand, or help finding the right resources for what comes next.

At the Susan Mast ALS Foundation, we’re here to support people living with ALS and the families and caregivers beside them throughout West Michigan.

This one is incredibly special to us.

Ten years ago, Emily lost her mom, Kathy, to ALS. To honor her mom’s beautiful spirit and the light she brought to so many people, Emily has created the Keep Shining Collection through EmsCustomStudio.

And she has chosen to donate 100% of the profits from this collection to the Susan Mas ALS Foundation. 🤍

Emily has been part of the Susan Mast ALS Foundation family since we first opened our doors. She has supported our mission for years, walked alongside ALS families in our community, and today serves as Vice Chair of our Board of Directors.

Her decision to honor her mom in this way means more to us than we can say.
