New City Kids: Grand Rapids

A non-profit youth leadership development program and an after school performing arts center. These programs complement and support one another.

We simply love kids for change to create a community of spiritual, leadership, academic, and musical development. Our vision is to walk with a child from age six to age nineteen and be an advocate, family, teacher, and mentor to that child. We strive to set these children on a path of life transformation that will carry them forward for the rest of their lives. To this end we offer two key programs, including: After School Center and Teen Life Internship.

This past weekend was one to remember! 🎶✨

We had the amazing opportunity to perform at the Community Celebration presented by Acrisure Amphitheater, and our teens brought so much joy, energy, and talent to the stage! We are so proud of them for sharing their gifts in front of the Grand Rapids community.

A huge thank you to Opnr for giving our teens the opportunity to perform and be part of such a special community moment. 💛

New City Kids had a truly special visit from children's author Cheryl Hellner, who stopped by to share her newly released book Sing Up The Earth! 📚✨

Cheryl asked us to join her in rhythmically "calling the story into the room" using a djembe drum as we clapped along. We were captivated as she brought the Sing Up The Earth! story to life with pictures, words, and playing the Ocarina! It was a perfect way to emphasize caring the beautiful world God created for us. 🌎💚

A huge thank you to Cheryl for inspiring our students and sparking their love of reading, writing, and creation!

Two states, four days, and SIX colleges!

Nineteen New City Kids teens spent their spring break touring colleges, exploring new cities, and dreaming big about their plans after high school! This years' annual College Tour made stops at Central Michigan University, Ferris State University, Wayne State University, Hope College, University of Detroit Mercy, and North Park University.

Thank you to all the incredible colleges and universities for hosting New City Kids: Grand Rapids. We're so excited to see where our future grads will go next!

According to our Teen Life Interns, the New City Kids annual Spring Spiritual Retreat was....

Fun

Spiritual Retreats provide space for time with God, worship, testimonies, deeper conversations, and relationship building. Our sessions focused on identifying and understanding spiritual gifts and learning how everyone's gift is essential to the body of Christ. Our teens were empowered to worship, share testimonies, and pray over one another. We are so grateful for this intentional time together and for all the ways God is moving in the lives of our teens.

Our teens recently had the opportunity to visit the Crowe X - Design Lab for a professional visit 💼🤩

During the visit, Teen Life Interns learned more about what it means to be a professional and how their workforce development training at New City Kids ties into future careers. They came ready to discuss workplace and digital communication, how to receive feedback and criticism, work/life decisions, problem solving, reliability, collaboration, and more!

The Crowe team members shared more about these important skills and how they apply to any day to day projects teens might be working on right now, such as presentations and reports!

Thank you to New City Networks' very own photographer and strategist, Paul Hart, and his team at Crowe for welcoming our teens for an amazing professional visit!

Our friends from the GVSU Jazz Band filled New City Kids with beautiful music, inspiration, and joy! 🎶

From new instruments and rhythms to improv playing, these visits are great opportunities for our students to learn more about jazz! After the performance, our inspired young musicians were able to have a Q&A session with the Jazz Band, hearing more about how jazz offers freedom for creativity, how each musician started on their instrument, and more!

Chair-ishing Our New Friends!

A huge thank you to for an incredible evening of volunteering and community! From joining our students in Community Time to painting, organizing, and cleaning, your visit lit up our After School Center! We're so grateful for your time and each project your team tackled, it truly makes such a difference for our teens, students, and staff.

Come join us for Team Saul!!

Saul, one of our incredible Teen Life Interns, was in a near-fatal car accident in November and is in the midst of a tough recovery journey.

Next Tuesday, February 24th, you can show your support for Saul at ! When you stop into DJs for dine in, order pickup, or delivery, a portion of ALL sales ALL day will support Saul and his family through his recovery journey. Invite friends or family and enjoy a delicious dinner that makes a difference!

If you're unable to participate, please consider supporting through prayer and sharing the Team Saul Fundraiser information!
