👟 Step into their shoes. See the choices differently.

Join YWCA West Central Michigan for In Their Shoes® West Michigan, an experiential learning event designed to deepen understanding of the complex realities survivors of domestic violence may face.

Rather than simply hearing about the barriers survivors encounter, participants will navigate realistic situations and make difficult decisions with limited resources and options.

💜 Domestic Violence Awareness Month: Myth vs. Fact
MYTH: Domestic violence only involves physical harm.
FACT: Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, and psychological abuse.
Abuse may look like constant criticism, manipulation, controlling access to money, online stalking, threatening messages, or sharing private images without consent. Not all abuse leaves visible bruises, but all forms of abuse can have lasting impacts.
This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let’s expand our understanding of abuse and work together to build communities rooted in respect, safety, and healthy relationships.

Today, we were honored to welcome artist Brecia Kralovic-Logan, founder of the international Women’s Woven Voices collaborative art project, to YWCA West Central Michigan for the presentation of beautiful tapestry panels that will become a permanent installation in our building.

As we begin Domestic Violence Awareness Month, this artwork serves as a powerful reflection of healing, resilience, connection, and the strength found in sharing women’s stories.

Today was also a special opportunity to welcome Gretchen Murphy as Board President of YWCA West Central Michigan.

Thank you to Brecia, our YWCA leadership and board members, and everyone who joined us to make today’s gathering so meaningful. We also extend a special thank you to WOOD TV8 and WGVU Public Radio for helping us share this story and bring greater awareness to the work being done to support survivors in our community.

📺 Watch WOOD TV8 tonight to see coverage from today’s event!

We are grateful to everyone who helped make this permanent installation possible and to all who continue to stand with survivors throughout West Michigan. 💜

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
At YWCA, we are committed to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
This month, we continue that work by standing with survivors, raising awareness, and advocating for communities where everyone can live safely and free from violence.
Throughout October, we invite you to join us in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and sharing why this work matters to you.
