We wanted to wish a big congratulations to our very own GRCC member -- Erik Lemmen -- for winning the 2026 Michigan Amateur Championship with an amazing 5/5! He is the current Co-Club Champion and now the 2026 Michigan Amateur Champion.

That means the Grand Rapids Chess Center's membership has held the Michigan Amateur crown for 2 years now. Dylan McLain won it in 2025! Congrats Erik! Continuing his strong play recently on his way to expert!!

The Sparta Junior Chess Challenge was a great success. The library was an amazing host and we had some awesome kids. 13 players competed and it was a very competitive tournament.

Congrats to Ephraim Brumley going 5/5 to win the event!

We had an Fide Master in the building and two National Masters tonight! It was a strong night.

Big night!

Our 2026 Chess Center champions have been crowned.

Our Reserve Champion was first-time tournament player Francis Christie! Congrats on 3.5/5 as the top U1200.

Our Club Champions share the title. In a tightly contested tournament Dylan McLain and Erik Lemmen tie for first place with 4/5. Congrats you two!

Both Dylan and Erik have been longtime members and strong competitors. It was great to congratulate them on their success.
