Our Youth Grant Committee is BACK 💥After a summer hiatus, these teens are ready to engage in local youth-led philanthropy. This year we’re welcoming 10 new members to the committee. Our 22 total committee members represent 13 different schools across Kent County. During the school year, members meet and assess youth issues, develop a request for proposals process to address those needs, follow up with previous grantees, conduct interviews and site visits and award grants through the Youth Fund.

Welcome to our newest committee members! 👏

What impact do you want to leave behind?

Thanks to a legacy gift from Bob Mieras, youth in Grand Rapids are gaining confidence and creative skills through Girls Rock! Grand Rapids, pictured here. Because he included the Community Foundation in his estate plan, Bob's generosity continues to support arts programs after his lifetime.

August is Make-A-Will Month! A simple plan today can help care for your loved ones and support the causes that matter most to you tomorrow. Read more about making a will in our blog "A Legacy Beyond Your Lifetime" and reach out to a member of our development team to get started at GRFoundation.org.

As we celebrate Black Philanthropy Month and 20 years of Black Legacy Fund, we’re proud to reflect on how this fund has grown and evolved! Pictured are partners at the first African American Heritage Fund event in 2006.

Launched through the vision of leaders like Shirley Daniels, Bev Drake, the late Margaret Sellers Walker, Cal Jeters and Elias Lumpkins, the fund was the first fund of its kind in West Michigan. The fund originally focused on supporting African American youth and addressing summer learning loss. In 2021 it was renamed to better reflect its mission of uplifting Black brilliance and improving quality of life.

We’re grateful for the community members who invest in and celebrate Black philanthropy year-round. To give or learn more, visit GRFoundation.org/BlackLegacyFund.

We are beyond grateful for the generous grant support we received from Grand Rapids Community Foundation earlier this month. At a time when fair housing centers are facing unprecedented challenges, the Community Foundation’s support enables our organization to continue to provide essential fair housing services in our community, including:
✅ Educating tenants and housing consumers about their rights to fair housing.
✅ Helping housing providers understand their responsibilities under fair housing laws.
✅ Providing direct support to neighbors experiencing illegal housing discrimination
✅ Investigating and monitoring discriminatory practices within the housing industry

Thank you, Grand Rapids Community Foundation, for supporting our mission to ensure fair housing choice and equal access to housing opportunities for all! To learn more about Grand Rapids Community Foundation, please visit grfoundation.org.
