Family homelessness exists all across the country. But it often goes unseen. It’s an invisible crisis.

More than 1.5 million children experienced homelessness during the 2023-24 school year. Yet most were not living on the streets or in shelters. They were staying in motels or doubled up with others, forms of homelessness that can remain largely invisible to the public.

These families and children experiencing homelessness deserve to be top of mind. Which is exactly why we work every day to serve families in our community.

This week, we’re going to celebrate our work here in Family Promise of West Michigan and the work of Family Promise sites across the country.

Teamwork makes the dream work! Shoutout to our friends at Gordon Food Service Gordon Food Service for volunteering with us this week. The team assembled birthday baskets for kids in shelter, organized basic needs items to support families across our programs, and even built a few shelves so we can expand our donation intake capacity. A HUGE thank you to our new friends at Integrated Design Solutions for filling a work van and truck bed with donations for our basic needs inventory! Their team collected over 1,600 items to restock our shelves and ensure families have access to essentials like diapers, sheets, shampoo, and so much more as the winter season approaches!

Last year, Family Promise had the opportunity to meet the team at TowerPinkster and present about the important work we're doing to end homelessness, one family at a time.

Since that meeting, TowerPinkster has become a valued community partner. Yesterday, their team members spent the afternoon at one of our mobile home parks rehabbing a house. Because of their hard work, that house will soon be called home by a family currently in shelter. We are so grateful for their partnership!

Last week, we gathered with local pastors and faith leaders for a morning of conversation, connection, and collaboration at our Pastor’s Breakfast!

Jim Davis led a thoughtful panel discussion on policy, advocacy, and benevolence, with Dr. Virginia Beard, an educator of politcal science at Hope College and our Volunteer & Events Manager, Victoria Hart, joining the panel to share their perspective and experiences.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn together and have meaningful conversations about how faith communities and community organizations can work together to support families experiencing homelessness.

Thank you to the churches, temples, and other faith communities who continue to show up, ask questions, share ideas, and partner with Family Promise of West Michigan. We’re grateful for these relationships and the collective impact they make in our community!

It’s 9-2-5, which means it’s Dolly Parton Day! 💓 And if there’s one thing Dolly would tell us to do, it’s spread a little kindness.

Family Promise is proud to partner with Heart of West Michigan United Way today for their annual Day of Caring. Volunteers from Steelcase spent the morning with us, cleaning our Cherry Street office inside and out! Tasks like tidying up and organizing sometimes fall to the wayside when you're focused on supporting families in crisis, so we are incredibly grateful when volunteers step up to lend a hand!

Thanks, Steelcase, for helping us put the “do a good deed” spirit of 9-2-5 into action!

Bed pillows
Full-size body wash for sensitive skin
Deodorant
Toilet paper
Pantry-stable meals and snacks (mac & cheese cups, peanut butter, pull-top canned soups, applesauce pouches, granola bars, etc.)

Donations can be dropped off to 516 Cherry St SE on Tuesdays from 10am-2pm or by appointment by contacting [email protected].

⛳️ Monday was one for the books!

We had a great time at our 24th Annual Changing the Course for Children Golf Outing at Thousand Oaks Golf Club! Great golf, plenty of laughs, and an incredible community coming together for local families. 💙

A huge THANK YOU to our golfers, sponsors, volunteers, donors, and event supporters for making the day possible. Your support helps Family Promise of West Michigan provide shelter, prevention, housing stabilization, and support for families experiencing homelessness.
