Merry Christmas from Bina’s Buddies🤍🤍

I hope you and all of your furry friends stay safe and warm for the weekend! Pets can make up a big part of this season, but sometimes they go forgotten about during the holiday hubbub. Remember to regularly check water bowls, keep meal-time regular, and try to work in enrichment activities. Going on walks or giving your pet enrichment toys/treats can help prevent that busy-family pet boredom. Stay safe and healthy🐾

Sending a very merry Christmas to ! Bina’s Buddies provided another donation to a rescue in west Michigan, right where we started! Recently, I collected pet supplies from contestants at the USA National Miss Michigan state pageant. A donation counted as an entry to the Bina’s Buddies scholarship, and so many girls participated! I donated all of the items collected to Michele’s Rescue in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I’m so grateful to all of the contestants for donating these supplies, and I’m proud to help make a difference back in my home state.

Q: Are there different types of service dogs?

A: Yes! Different owners (handlers) have different needs, so assistance animals are trained in specific tasks that will best help their handler. For example, a service dog for a person who can’t see probably won’t be performing the same tasks as a service dog for someone with epilepsy.

In honor of the last day of Service Dog Awareness Month, Bina’s Buddies created a simple guide to a few common “types” of service dogs! As of right now, there is no official, universally accepted list of different types, but the most common are Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs, Allergy Detection Dogs, Diabetic Alert Dogs, Mobility Assistance Dogs, Seizure Alert Dogs, and Psychiatric Service Dogs. Did you know that September is National Service Dog Awareness Month? This month, we’re celebrating all of the wonderful service dogs across the country and the progress made in regards to inclusivity of service dogs. Sharing some good news this Wednesday, Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) does NOT apply to service dogs! The ADA does not have any breed restrictions for service dogs, and this also means that service dogs are protected from discrimination nationwide. Due to BSL, many dogs such as Pit Bulls or Rottweilers are banned in certain cities for no reason beyond generalized fear. But service dogs are exempt from this unfair discrimination and are allowed in all cities and municipalities nationwide!!
