In 1953, a Black barber named Samuel worked in his basement in Alabama. White barbers wouldn't serve Black customers. Black barbers couldn't serve white customers—it was against the law.

But white men needed haircuts too. And some didn't care about the law.

At night, they came to Samuel's basement—judges, police officers, businessmen. Samuel cut their hair in silence. He never asked their names. He never told anyone they came.

One night, a police officer who had arrested Samuel's son for "loitering" sat in Samuel's chair. Samuel cut his hair. The officer paid. He left. Samuel never said a word.

In 1965, the law changed. Samuel opened a shop on Main Street. His first day, a line of white men waited outside. The judge was first. The police officer was second.

Samuel said: "They came to my basement when it was illegal. Now they come to my shop when it's legal. Same haircuts. Same silence."

Samuel died in 1985. His son found a box of thank-you notes from white customers—decades of them. Each note said: "You never told."

Based on real accounts of Black barbers who served white customers in secret during segregation.

At just 17 years old, Nigerian tech talent Okechukwu Nwaozor is already making waves in the AI industry after founding OkeyMeta at age 15 and creating OkeyAI, a generative artificial intelligence platform designed to handle text, images, and code. The self-taught programmer represents a new generation of young Africans building technology solutions focused on African needs such as healthcare, agriculture, local languages, and digital accessibility instead of relying solely on foreign systems. His journey is now inspiring many young people interested in innovation, technology, and the future of African-built AI. 🎓🤖🔥

Tanzanian billionaire Mohammed Dewji is investing $50 million to build a soft drinks manufacturing plant in Mombasa, Kenya, aiming to compete with Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.

The new facility will produce MeTL Group’s flagship beverages, including Mo Cola, Mo Xtra, and Mo Malto, with Mo Cola to be sold at a much lower price than rivals.

This strategy targets mass-market, low-income consumers—an approach that proved successful in Tanzania by offering affordable alternatives.

The investment reflects intensifying competition in Africa’s beverage sector as both local billionaires and multinational corporations vie for the growing consumer market.

Simon Petrus, a student from Namibia, introduced a prototype communication device designed to operate using radio frequencies rather than traditional SIM card networks. Reports about the project gained international attention after demonstrations of the device were shared online and through technology discussions. Supporters described the invention as an example of youth-driven innovation focused on communication access in areas with limited telecom infrastructure. Critics noted that radio-based communication systems have existed for decades in forms such as two-way radios and walkie-talkies. The project nevertheless generated discussion about engineering creativity, technology accessibility, and local innovation in developing regions. Namibia has increasingly promoted science, engineering, and technology education through universities and youth innovation programs.

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has unveiled a massive plan to generate 20,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity, a move he described as one to “make Africa’s needs a reality.”

Dangote made this revelation during a high-profile conversation with Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The business magnate, whose $20 billion refinery in Lagos is already reaching its 650,000 barrels-per-day capacity, signaled that his business conglomerate is ready to pivot towards power to bridge the continental energy gap.

"We are now going into power... 20,000 megawatts because we are looking at the needs of Africa and making them a reality. Africa's most pressing needs remain energy, fertilisers, and industrial inputs," he said in an interview.
