Pillar’s of Steel (POS) is a men’s initiative guided by the POS definition of masculine spirituality:

The ongoing endeavor to develop and deepen our relationship with God together as men in the company of others. In a contemplative spirit, POS strives to:

• Listen
• Discern, and
• Collaborate with other individuals, groups and organizations to help them create and sustain on-going opportunities for men to enrich their wisdom and understanding about life.

Have you ever said:
“It’s fine.”
“I forgive them.”
“God’s got this.”

…while something inside you still felt hurt, frustrated, or unsettled?

This week on the blog, I’m sharing a personal story about spiritual bypassing and the subtle way we sometimes use spiritual truths to avoid what we’re actually feeling.

Healing doesn’t come from pretending emotions aren’t there.
And it doesn’t come from living inside them forever either.

It comes from honestly bringing what’s real into conversation with God.

If you’ve ever struggled to “let go” of something that keeps circling back, I think this will resonate deeply.

There are mornings when the hardest thing isn’t getting started…it’s staying.

Staying with your thoughts.
Staying in the quiet.
Staying when nothing is resolving, shifting, or making sense.

This poem came out of one of those mornings.
When everything in me wanted to run, but I stayed. And God met me there.

If you’ve been there, this one’s for you.

This week I’m sharing a poem that came to me in a quiet moment, built around a simple idea that has stayed with me:

What if God is more like gravity than something we have to chase?

Steady. Ever-present. Holding us, even when we forget.

If you’ve ever felt distant, unsure, or like you have to hold it all together, this might meet you there.

How to Stop Living in Your Head and Start Living in God’s Presence.

Life is loud.

Faith can feel distant. And sometimes it’s hard to know how to connect with God in everyday life.

That’s why I wrote Divine Flow: Reclaiming the Lost Art of Contemplation for Everyday Life.

This book offers a simple, practical rhythm to help you step out of the chaos of daily life, quiet the noise, and experience God through four grounded practices: Quiet Time, Spiritual Reading, Community, and Spiritual Gifts.

I’m excited to share that the Divine Flow book is now available for pre-order. It officially launches on June 23, 2026.

If your life were a book… what would God call it?

Not the title shaped by pressure, striving, or your inner critic. But the one spoken from love.

I sat with this question recently and the answer surprised me. It didn’t tell me who I needed to become, but revealed something deeper about who I already am instead.

I invite you to sit with this question this week.

What if prayer is not only about what we say to God, but also about creating space to hear from God?

Sometimes prayer feels like a running monologue, with requests, thoughts, worries, and gratitude all poured out without much pause. It can feel like we are filling every quiet moment, trying to say the right things or making sure we have covered everything.

But recently, I have been reminded of something simple.
Every relationship needs both talking and listening.

Maybe prayer is not about saying more, but about becoming more present. About slowing down enough to listen, and trusting that God has been there all along, ready to meet us.

Read full reflection here:

Sometimes I realize I talk too much. Actually, my wife has known that for years. Every now and then, when I’m rambling on, she’ll tap me on the hand, smile, and say, “Honey, would you just listen for a moment?” The other day, I realized I sometimes do the same thing with God.     […]

What if the greater spiritual danger isn’t loving ourselves too much…
…but not loving ourselves at all?

Many of us know how to give love.
Fewer of us know how to receive it.

In this reflection, I explore what Jesus meant when he said, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” and why learning to receive God’s love for ourselves may be one of the most important spiritual practices we can develop.

I also share a gentle path from self-criticism to compassion and a simple daily practice to help quiet the inner critic.

Read the full reflection here:

I grew up hearing a phrase that many of you probably heard too: “It’s better to give than to receive.”   It’s a beautiful teaching. It reflects the heart of Jesus. It forms generous people.   But there’s a shadow side.   If we’re not careful, “better to give than to receive” slowl...

Ever sit down to pray or meditate and get nothing?

Maybe you had a rhythm once and fell off.
Maybe you’ve been standing at the station for years, unsure how to begin.

Quiet time is a relationship you can return to anytime.
In this week’s post, I share:

• Why feeling nothing doesn’t mean failure and how to let go of the perfection trap

• The real-life benefits of a consistent quiet practice.
• A simple, pressure-free way to get back on the train

And I created a free 10-Day Plan to Quiet Your Mind and Experience God’s Presence to help you start again—gently.
Begin again today. 🤍

There’s a moment most of us know well.   Maybe you once had a daily Quiet Time rhythm going—meditating, praying, sitting in silence, letting your soul exhale—and then you fell off the train.   Or maybe you’ve been standing at the meditation train station for a long time. You want the peace...
