🍋 Happy National Lemonade Day! 🍋

We had the sweetest time celebrating at the Mary Free Bed Kids Lemonade Stand! 💛

Last summer, Once Upon a Room was honored to help set up this special pop-up stand, so it was extra special to be back this week as their guests!

This weekly therapeutic activity gives kids the opportunity to practice real world skills alongside their therapy teams, from taking orders, mixing drinks, handling money, building confidence, and having fun. 🥤✨

And the frozen lemonade? We can say with certainty… DELICIOUS! 😋🍋

Keep up the amazing work, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation ! We’re so grateful to be a small part of something that brings so much joy, learning, and lemonade to these incredible kids. 💛

It’s so much more than hanging decorations.

Every room begins with one incredible child. We learn about their favorite colors, characters, hobbies, and interests so we can create a space that’s uniquely theirs.

Then our volunteers get to work. Shopping, planning, crafting, decorating, and adding thoughtful details that turn a standard hospital room into a place filled with comfort, joy, and hope.

When everything is in place, the best moment finally arrives: watching a child and their family walk into a room created just for them. ✨

We believe every child deserves more than a hospital room, they deserve a space that brings comfort, joy, hope, and reminds them they’re not alone.

Once Upon a Room is a national organization serving 55 hospitals across 17 States. The Grand Rapids chapter was founded in 2023 and has since grown into 200 room transformations for local children and their families. And every single one has been made possible by this incredible Grand Rapids community.

From shopping for each child’s favorite things to transforming hospital rooms with our amazing volunteers, every room tells a unique story. But our mission goes beyond the walls of a hospital room. Through programs that support patients, siblings, and caregivers, we’re committed to bringing hope, comfort, and moments of joy during some of life’s hardest days.

When Mariyah first entered her new pink and purple flower themed hospital room, her smile said everything.

This isn’t just our 200th room. It’s 200 children, their families, and caregivers who have experienced a little more comfort during an incredibly difficult season. 200 opportunities to turn a hospital room into a place filled with hope, joy, and love.

Every room we transform is made possible because of this amazing Grand Rapids community. Whether you’ve volunteered, donated, sponsored a room, shared our mission, or cheered us on, you are part of this moment.

Our 200th hospital room transformation is a reminder that 200 children have had their hospital room turned into a space filled with comfort, hope, and a little bit of magic during one of the hardest times in their lives.

Room 200 was created just for Mariyah, with a beautiful flower theme to brighten her days and remind her that she is surrounded by people who care. 🌼

Every room tells a story. Every decoration, every detail says, “You are seen. You are loved. You are not alone.”

This milestone belongs to every volunteer who gave their time, every donor who gave generously, every business that partnered with us, and every person who believed that a hospital room can become so much more than four walls.
