Thank you again to everyone who joined us for July Unwind! It was an incredible evening filled with new connections, meaningful conversations, and an amazing community of young professionals.

What a night!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our July Unwind networking event. Despite the wildfire smoke affecting Michigan, we were grateful to gather indoors, network safely, make new connections, and enjoy a great evening together.

A special thank you to Residences at One Eleven for graciously hosting us and providing such a beautiful space for our members and guests.

With today’s poor air quality, we wanted to share the easiest way to get inside while minimizing your time outdoors.

Parking & Arrival Instructions
📍 Vandenberg Center Garage
250 Monroe Ave NW

1. Drive straight into the garage, then turn right immediately before the parking ramp.
2. Park in any open, available space. Please do not park in spaces marked “RESERVED.”
3. Enter the building through the glass doors labeled “One Eleven.”
4. Take the elevators down to the lower level, where the event will be held.

💲Parking is $12 for up to 2 hours.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone for tonight’s unwind at One Eleven!

With the air quality being bad we did want to make everyone aware of an underground parking option. Using the Vandenberg Garage will allow you to park underground and enter One Eleven directly from the garage.

Parking is $12 for two hours.

How long have you been involved with GRYP?
I joined GRYP in 2022 as Director of Fundraising, later served as Director of Social Engagement, and was honored to be elected President for 2026.

Why did you join GRYP?
I joined GRYP to meet new people, build meaningful relationships, and get more involved in the Grand Rapids community. I was looking for a place where young professionals could connect, have fun, and grow together, and that’s exactly what I found.

What do you love most about GRYP?
The people. I love how diverse and welcoming GRYP has become. It’s a community where everyone belongs, and we genuinely pour into and support one another.

Favorite thing about Grand Rapids?
Grand Rapids is home. I’ve been fortunate to watch the city grow over the years while growing alongside it. I’ve built lifelong relationships here, and it’s inspiring to see so many friends become leaders who are helping shape the community we all love.

Fun Fact:
I’ve never had a cup of coffee!

Advice for young professionals:
Build your network. Strangers can make you rich. The relationships you build are often more powerful than any degree, so invest in people, show up, and never underestimate the value of a genuine connection.

Coffee order or favorite local spot?
I don’t drink coffee, so I’ll go with MDRD. Great food, an incredible atmosphere, and the best views in downtown Grand Rapids.

How long have you been involved with GRYP?
2+ years on the Board and attended as a member beginning in college (circa 2014).

Why did you join GRYP?
I learned early that the most influential leaders in my community were well connected, so I invested in growing my own network. After four years of remote work with a national agency, I wanted to reconnect with the Grand Rapids professional community.

What do you love most about being part of the organization?
Connecting with people who are building careers, starting businesses, growing their families, and creating a life here in Grand Rapids. Every conversation reflects what GRYP is all about.

Favorite thing about Grand Rapids?
Big city opportunities without the big city stress.

A fun fact about you:
I’ve been swimming in all five Great Lakes within 48 hours.

Favorite quote or life motto:
“I had to make you uncomfortable, otherwise you never would have moved.”

What advice would you give young professionals?
Burnout is never worth it. Trust your intuition and learn to listen to your body. Your capacity changes every day.

Why did you join GRYP?
I joined GRYP to build my brand, create community, and grow my network in the Grand Rapids area.

What do you love most about being part of the organization?
I enjoy the networking opportunities and getting to experience event venues around town that I typically wouldn’t visit on my own.

Favorite thing about Grand Rapids?
There are countless ways to stay active within the health and fitness community, whether it’s joining a run club, going to the gym, playing pickleball, practicing yoga, or enjoying other outdoor activities.

A fun fact about you:
I was born in Houston, Texas, and after moving to Michigan, I lived on Doherty Drive, attended Doherty Elementary School, and my last name is Doherty! And no, the family does not own the school.

Favorite quote or life motto:
“Nothing changes if nothing changes.” — Rick Pitino

What advice would you give young professionals?
Keep an open mind and be willing to put yourself in uncomfortable situations. That’s where real growth happens.

I never say no to a caramel latte, and you can usually find me at Rapid River Stillhouse Rooftop.
