Join us today for a free community meal. At KOOTASCA, our community meals programming is about more than providing food. Our programs are designed to bring people together around a shared meal. It is an opportunity for people to connect, build relationships, and reduce feelings of isolation.

Everyone welcome, including those in need of a hot meal and well as those interested in fellowship with community. Pre-registration is not required. Dine-in only.

Location: 822 NE 5th Ave, Grand Rapids
Time: Mondays from 4:00 - 6:00
Menu 10/19: Meatballs, cheesy potatoes, rolls, fruit, pumpkin cheesecake bars.
Beverages: Coffee, tea, water, lemonade

🎃 Help a Child Celebrate Halloween!

Halloween is a fun time filled with jack-o'-lanterns, parties, trick-or-treating, costumes, and celebrations with family and friends. For many families, however, Halloween can also bring added financial stress.

KOOTASCA is collecting children's Halloween costumes to help local families in need. Your donation can help make Halloween a special and memorable experience for a child in our community.

✨GRAND RAPIDS

👻 Costume Donation Dates: Now through October 25th
Please drop off new or gently used children's Halloween costumes at:
KOOTASCA (Old Murphy School Building)
822 NE 5th Ave Grand Rapids, MN
Drop-Off Hours:
Monday through Friday
9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

🎃 Costume Distribution Dates: October 15 - October 29
Costumes will be available to low-income families at:
KOOTASCA (Old Murphy School Building)
Circles of Support Room - Please use the Circles of Support entrance door next to double doors on 5th avenue.
Distribution Hours:
• Tuesdays & Thursdays: 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
• Wednesdays: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Join us for lunch today from 11:00-1:00

While cozy evenings and crisp autumn air can be enjoyable, the seasonal shift can also increase feelings of social isolation, which can negatively impact mental health. KOOTASCA hosts weekly programming to help people build social connections and reduce isolation.

Monday Community Meal 4:00-6:00 at 822 NE 5th Ave.
Wednesday Lunch 11:00-1:00 at 822 NE 5th Ave.

The heart of Head Start is the people who make it possible.

This Head Start Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the teachers, family advocates, cooks, administrators, volunteers and so many others who show up for children and families every day.

At KOOTASCA, our team of just over 50 Head Start professionals help families every day through connecting, listening, and following up to ensure they receive the support needed. KOOTASCA's staff takes the extra step for our families to lay a strong foundation to make a lasting difference for children and families in our communities.

Three homes on nice lots will be ready in late Fall of 2026, and anticipate 3 more houses Spring of 2027! Down payment assistance and associated housing assistance programs available to qualified buyers.

Belonging starts when people are welcomed exactly as they are.

At KOOTASCA, we believe all people have value and deserve just treatment, respect, and courtesy. Providing meaningful access to programs and services that are offered in inclusive and welcoming settings is essential to addressing the causes and conditions of poverty.

That’s why KOOTASCA attends events across our service area to:
• Increase awareness of available services
• Build trust and relationships
• Improve accessibility
• Strengthen partnerships
• Reduce the stigma surrounding poverty

Poverty disproportionately affects many LGBTQ+ individuals due to discrimination and limited opportunities, making it harder to afford basic needs like housing, healthcare, and education.

We recognize that stronger communities are built when everyone feels seen, valued, respected, and welcomed.
