Wayfinding clearly explains trail uses, rules, and regulations.

Clear and consistent signage encourages people to bicycle and walk by highlighting how easy it is to travel via trail while also creating awareness of the larger trail network.

Wayfinding guides users through complicated or confusing transitions between dedicated trails and on-street bike routes.

Trail users gain confidence and are inspired to explore farther than they normally would while key destinations are highlighted just beyond the trails.

Wayfinding gives first responders and trail users the tools to identify the location of emergencies.

Trail Etiquette Tip of the Day!

Pets are a part of our trail community too! Keep your four legged friends secure, stay to the right, be mindful and manager their interactions with other trail users. A little extra attention helps everyone enjoy the trail comfortably and safely.

And of course… don’t forget to scoop the 💩!!! No one wants to step in it, ride through it, or move along with it on their shoes!

In June 2025 we celebrated a trail milestone at the official ribbon cutting of the Red Arrow Trail in Chikaming Township! This is the first trail to implement the West Michigan Trails wayfinding guide with brand new signage!

Our wayfinding standards have already helped communities create safer, more connected trail experiences, and we’re working toward implementing signage across 300+ miles of non-motorized trails throughout West Michigan!
