Our Development Director Cathy Blackburn had a chance to meet Presidential Historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham, who was the speaker at The Economic Club of Grand Rapids luncheon recently. One of his messages was from the Bible where God says to “Love Your Neighbor”. That’s what we try to do every day at The Salvation Army. Echelon Grand Rapids recently had the opportunity to attend the Walk to End Alzheimer's – Grand Rapids at Millennium Park, where they passed out donuts and beverages to volunteers and participants throughout the event. We were recently able to share with Rotary Club of Grand Rapids members, guests and our board members, how shopping at The Salvation Army Thrift Stores, Western Michigan, funds the Grand Rapids Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC). Major Ramona shared a presentation, answered questions and those interested were able to take a tour showing how all the work behind the scenes, helps to change lives. For those that don't know, The ARC provides spiritual, social and emotional assistance for men who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves, giving them the chance to become rehabilitated and reunite with their families.
