We are in full force with another fantastic cohort of West Michigan students this year! Our team is getting to know each other, learning about our industry, and working toward our design competition project: a new, multi-modal transportation hub in downtown Grand Rapids.

Earlier this year, the team went out to walk the Acrisure Amphitheater job site and see the incredible work ongoing on the Grand River. Special thanks to Progressive Companies and Pioneer Construction for volunteering your time and talent to educate our students.

Are you a high school student that has an interest in architecture, construction, engineering, and the skilled trades?

The ACE Mentor Program of West Michigan is a free, award-winning, after school program designed to inspire local high school students to pursue post-secondary education or job experience in the design and construction industry. We will be conducting our 2024-2025 Program year over 14 sessions, beginning this November and ending in February 2025.

This past Tuesday, the ACE Mentor Program of West Michigan celebrated yet another successful program year inspiring local high school students to pursue careers in architecture, construction management, and engineering. In addition to awarding $8,000 in student scholarships, students from 11 different high schools across 4 different counties presented their capstone project: a shoreline prototype development on the Grand River.

This project has been submitted for consideration in the national CIRT Design Competition, which pits affiliates from all over the nation in a competition over three different design briefs. We are so proud of our students and mentors!

Thank you to the Grand Rapids Public Museum and Grand Rapids Public Schools for allowing us to use your space for our Project Kickoff last night. As students prepare for their upcoming design competition focusing on shoreline design, we decided to go off-site to consider the design elements of our beloved native waterway, the Grand River.

ACE West Michigan has been hard at work the past few weeks as we progress through our industry introductions. During these weeks, students hear from professionals about their academic backgrounds, their paths to the AEC industry, and the roles and responsibilities those professionals perform on a typical building project.

The goal of our introduction weeks is to familiarize students with our profession and inspire them toward a desired "discipline" to contribute to our upcoming design competition in 2024!

ACE West Michigan mentors and students were at Studio Park this past Tuesday for our annual construction site visit, touring the downtown Acrisure Tower project by Integrated Architecture and Rockford Construction.

In addition to taking in some breathtaking sunset skyline views, students conducted on-site learning about jobsite safety, construction phasing, and the myriad team members and collaborators necessary to execute a large mixed-use project here in Grand Rapids.

We are back!

This past Tuesday marked the kickoff to our 2024 program year, as we welcomed 18 students to the ACE Mentor Program of West Michigan.

Students have nowo embarked on a 13-week journey to gain exposure and insight into the architecture, construction management, and engineering industries, culminating with a collaborative, student-led design competition.

We continue next week with our annual construction site visit, hosted by our Rockford Construction mentor team.
