Biochar Demonstration Date Changed to April 9

March 31, 2026 – The Cook County Highway Department, in coordination with Great River Greening, is hosting a biochar demonstration open to the community. Due to the winter weather warning this Thursday- the date has been changed to Thursday April 9th.

Event Details + New Date:
Thursday April 9, 2026
11 am - 2 pm
Cook County Highway Department (609 4th Ave E, Grand Marais)

Schedule:
11:00 - 11:15 am: Observe ignition
11:15 -11:45 am: Proper feeding of waste wood
1:30 - 2:00 pm: Kiln quench, biochar assessment, uses, etc.

The event is open to everyone, and participants can come for all or part of the demonstration. Anyone working in the fields of natural systems management, conservation, fire management, forestry, conservation services, agriculture, or gardening is especially encouraged to attend.
