It is with great sadness to report the loss of our beloved volunteer Dick Parker. Dick was behind the scenes making sure we had our financial "ducks in a row" as well as just being an all-around great guy. He volunteered and held seats on boards on just about every event held in Cook County over the last decade or more. Our hearts go out to his beloved wife Phyllis and family and all of the Cook County community. His legacy and spirit will live on forever in the kindness and guidance he gave so freely of others. Rest in peace Dick.

Good luck to all of the Mushers!

Good luck to all of the Mushers!

The Beargrease is a grueling 383-mile sled dog marathon, and for one family, it has become a tradition. Jamie Yuccas reports.

On behalf of Mush for a Cure, I would like to send condolences to the family of dog mushing Legend George Attla. George had one of the longest-running race careers that spanned FIVE decades. George was renowned for his dog care as well as his trophies. May he be enjoying sharing stories of the trail with Joe Redington and all the other pioneers in this crazy sport that have gone before us. ~Mary One of my favorite George quotes:
“The dog never makes a mistake. He is just a dog and he does what he does because he is a dog and thinks like a dog. It is you that makes the mistake because you haven’t trained him to do what you want him to do when you want him to do it.” ~George Attla

Beloved musher George Attla, who was hospitalized with bone cancer last month, is dead at age 81.

Hello All, This year's Mush for a Cure Sled Dog FUNdraiser has been cancelled. We had a very difficult time making the decision to cancel it but with just a month to go until the big day and very few mushers registered we didn't think we could bring in enough money/sponsorships to cover the many expenses of the event.

We know there were people who were really looking forward to the event as were we and our many dependable helpers and volunteers. It just did not make sense to go through with the work and planning of the event when only a handful of teams were registered.

I know people like to plan last minute based upon weather, money, etc. but with a dog sled race the same weekend and feedback at the Beargrease that mushers weren't planning to register we just couldn't move forward.

We appreciate the past support of everyone for our event and helping us raise $226,500 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Please don't get rid of your pink yet. There may be another Mush for a Cure next year if people want to continue to support it. Please feel free to let us know your thoughts.

Thank you very Mush!
