June 2026 Twin Ports Freshwater Folk

Twin Ports Freshwater Folk invites you to a special event on June 3, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Zoom showcasing the work of the 2025-2026 cohort of the Minnesota Sea Grant Science and Policy Fellowship.

Twin Ports Freshwater Folk (TPFF) is an informal gathering of people from the Twin Ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin, who are engaged in freshwater research, policy, or regulation issues, for networking and informal discussion. Meetings take place the first Wednesday of every month.

During this month’s event, three Minnesota Sea Grant Science and Policy Fellows will share their experiences and work on Minnesota’s water resources. Fellows Larissa Scott, Reid Brown, and Reane Loiselle-Kasun will share their work, which focused on stream restoration tools for St. Louis County, data-driven evaluations of water sustainability and permitting, and new insights into the management of aquatic invasive species. This engaging presentation will begin with the big picture, an Earth-Systems approach for the future, and then focus specifically on what that means from a housing perspective. This presentation is for anyone who wants to live sustainably and ensure healthy, sustainable, and available housing for us and for future generations. Presented by David Abazs, this presentation builds on his breadth of experience with sustainable systems and incorporates his research while on sabbatical across the US and beyond in 2025.

An exploration of sustainable, resilient, healthy, and affordable housing possibilities for the unique climate, topography, and local materials of Northeast Minnesota.

"The City of Grand Marais will host an open house on April 13th to share the findings and solutions from the Harbor Shoreline Protection Project. The event will take place in the Council Chambers at City Hall from 5-7pm and will be open to the public. At the event, staff will share findings of the coastal modeling that predicts expected wave height during intense storms. There will also be depictions of three possible treatments to the sheet piling wall, one of which will be selected by the project team to be designed to 30%. Staff will also put this project into the larger context of The Point master planning process that has yet to commence in full."

You can expect some changes to the appearance and functionality of the library’s website in the coming months. The library is moving forward with a project to rebuild the website on a modern platform.
