Pincushion Ski and Run Club

Pincushion Ski and Run Club The Pincushion Ski & Run Club manages the 25km Pincushion Mountain trail network in Grand Marais, MN. Welcome!

The Pincushion Ski and Run Club (PSRC) is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization 501(c)(3) that manages the 25km system of skiing and hiking/running trails at Pincushion Mountain in Grand Marais, MN. PSRC grooms these trails for skiing all winter and keeps the trails mowed for runners and walkers all summer. PSRC volunteers invest hundreds of hours every year working on a variety of trail main

tenance and repair projects. This Pincushion ski trail system is an extremely popular recreational resource for Cook County residents and for many thousand visitors each year. In addition to maintaining and grooming the trails, PSRC sponsors youth sports programs (ski instruction and rentals for grades K-6, Nordic Ski Team for grades 7-12), and hosts numerous public events and programs at Pincushion including ski technique workshops, full-moon social skis, Pincushion Winter Festival Races, Fisherman’s Picnic Running Races and more.

New Snow Last 24 hours: .25”

New Snow Last 7 days: 4.75”

Trail Base: 10-16”

Snow in Woods: 30”

Surface Conditions: Good

Last grooming day: 4/6/26

Comments: Groomed skate deck on Stadium, East and West Overlook, Upper and Lower Snowman and Pincushion Loop. Skating will be excellent today on the above trails, but hazardous on all advanced trails.

Classic tracks are deep, well defined and rock hard. Tracks have a coating of new snow in them, so are skiable, but use caution.

This is the part of the season when grooming consists of managing a daily freeze/thaw cycle to provide the best possible skiing conditions for the longest possible season. Tonight’s round of grooming was “bust the crust,” taking an icy skate track and rock hard classic tracks and returning them to firm powder. There should be excellent skiing for several days while we endure another warm spell. Hopefully we will have enough base to re-groom early next week when the forecast is calling for snow and sub-freezing temperatures. See you on the trails! - Bill Hansen, Lead Groomer

Comments: Full system groomed for skate and classic techniques. Continuing soft conditions and high winds overnight will result in blown in tracks, scoured deck and drifting especially on exposed segments. Skiing should still be excellent nonetheless.

This is my 46th year of skiing at Pincushion Ski Trails and my 50ish year of grooming ski trails on several trails in Cook County. I am grateful to the pioneers of Pincushion who had the foresight and ambition to develop this treasured community asset. Dave Bartol is a great example of a person who has given a huge gift of time and expertise to the system. Thanks to Dave—and many others—Pincushion has the smoothest and best drained trails, making the groomers’ job so much easier. Thanks, Dave! - Bill Hansen, Lead Groomer
