📢📢Mutual aid request! We have a quick turnaround needed on this one!
We received a referral request from an agency for a neighbor in our community who has fallen behind on their storage unit fees. She negotiated the cost down but still needs $500 by 5pm Monday. We've committed $100 toward this goal. Can you help? The FB donation button is attached and our PayPal link is in the comments. Comment below if you have another preferred method of giving. Please share and TIA for your generous hearts!

With the removal of legal protections for our unhoused neighbors, you may wonder how to help! Solidarity Not Charity can always use seasonally appropriate donations. Items like travel-sized sunscreen and river hats prevent serious burns and bug spray prevents infection and disease exposure.
Donations accepted at The Feed, 302 South Ave every Saturday from 4-5pm. Cash donations can also be made through Facebook (button attached to this post) or through PayPal (see comments).

Wednesday, May 20th, City Council Member Cody Kennedy sent an email which misled people into believing there were shelter beds available, but people weren't interested in using them. This is NOT TRUE. Kennedy stated: "...the 29 Road shelter is currently operating as the largest shelter between Lakewood, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah, with 112 beds. As of March of this year, that shelter was operating at an average occupancy of 59 individuals, so roughly half of its available capacity. Shelter space does exist in our community right now." He is WRONG. And he knows it. This information was distributed to the community in an effort to discourage the community from showing up and letting council know how we feel.

Housing is a human right, and shelter space is unavailable and inadequate for the needs!!! We demand housing/shelter for everyone in our community and protections for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Union Pacific railroad will begin camp removal at The Berm on June 2, 2026. This is the area of VACANT LAND between 28 and 29rd off I-70 Bus. Loop. Please note, this action was initiated by Union Pacific and applies only to Union Pacific lands.

❌We continue to call for no more sweeps. People have a right to housing. Full stop. If no affordable units are available and if people cannot access supportive housing, we shouldn't be destroying the only shelter people have.❌

If you would like to help out, you can drop off the following donations at the Feed (every Saturday 4-5pm, at 302 South Ave): tents, tarps, toilet paper, sunscreen, bug spray, cookware (pots and pans), camp stoves, undergarments/socks.

Today, during the meeting for Grand Valley Coalition for the Homeless, city council member Cody Kennedy pointed to a lack of desire for housing as a driving factor for homelessness in the Grand Valley. Daily, our organization fields requests and inquiry's from the unhoused community asking for information directing them to areas with safe parking and safe camping. People in authority putting their heads in the sand about a "very complicated issue" does not change the fact that the study that they themselves commissioned in 2024 stated that the one stabilizing factor for people's well being is Housing First. Nearly 3000 households (6000 people) are on a waitlist for housing vouchers. If City Council moves forward with removing protections to camp on vacant city lands from the city ordinances, where do they propose people go? It reminds us of the song, we don't care where you go, but you can't stay here.

City Council refused to pump the breaks before scheduling public hearing on changing the camping ban ordinance. This change will mean fines and possible risk of incarceration to people who are the most vulnerable in our community and have literally nowhere to go. June 3rd, 5:30pm, we will need everyone to step up and speak out. We demand the city work implement safe parking, camping and housing solutions.

Let us not overlook that 3 justices sided with the poor in Grants Pass v Johnson. In Justice Sotomayor's dissent, she emphasized that the city lacked meaningful alternatives and that the city's laws acted as a net to sweep up the homeless. Since there were not enough practically available shelter beds in the city, the ordinances targeted necessary, life-sustaining activities—like sleeping with a blanket—that these individuals were forced to do in public spaces.
Where would you sleep if you were homeless?
