Member Spotlight: Matthew Massaro
For this month’s Member Spotlight, we're featuring someone who experienced the impact of Lions long before he became a member.
Matt is a Benefits Specialist with Aflac, helping local businesses provide supplemental insurance and voluntary benefits so they can offer competitive employee benefit packages.
His connection to Lions began in 2019 while serving on the board of Grand Mesa Little League. At the time, the organization had major capital improvement projects but lacked the funding to make them happen. After applying for a Lions grant, they were awarded $25,000. The experience left a lasting impression on Matt.
Having been involved with nonprofits for many years, he already understood the importance of community support. When Brad became Lions president, Matt knew it was the right time to get involved. What drew him in was the opportunity to be part of an organization whose mission is to support other nonprofits and strengthen the community as a whole.
When he's not working or volunteering, Matt's biggest hobby is being a dad. He has a 16-year-old son who he describes as a true "mini-me," and they enjoy spending a lot of time together. He also enjoys golfing, bowling, and hunting—fortunately not all at the same time.
If you really knew Matt, you'd know that caring for others is simply part of who he is. As he puts it: "I am one of the most caring and compassionate people you'll ever meet. I'm the kind of person who would do something for someone else before doing it for myself."
